My self-summary
I am now a successful businessman. A former judge and retired lawyer, I started a bar and a couple of actors' theaters in the East Village that, after twenty years, have made me an overnight success. I recently launched a musical I had written about a gangster and the Russian revolution and it's aftermath. My hobbies keep turning into my business. It's fun. I've written several books, for children and adults (not the same books) as well as several other musicals for the stage but for ten years I was a lawyer for the criminally insane- until that became too much to bear. I have two teenage daughters and a country house in the forest and a 52 year old car that runs like a skateboard on fire and a real car and a little dog. You?
What I’m doing with my life
Projects. I need something to think about that isn't me. Whether its building a house in the forest or teaching myself to write songs, or writing and producing a musical, I find ways to stay amused. My new project is creating a 1920's speakeasy in a building I own in the east village, as a kind of time machine.
I’m really good at
Delegating. I give people an opportunity to do what they want and then I do not micromanage. That is a gift.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Many many authors have read at my establishment including Jonathan Franzen, Joyce Carol Oates, Jonathan Lethem, Rick Moody, Bud Shulberg , AM Holmes, John Ashbery, Lucy Grealy, Chuck Polaniuk (sp? The Fight Club), Billy Collins, too many to name, literally thousands, and they are all my favorite living authors. The one that got away, the living author that never came and I'd love to have: Thomas Pynchon. And of course the great Russians and the English, what's her name. You know. I could go on and on but I can't. And that's just books Movies and tv and food will have to wait until another time.
