A post-nomadic, post-hipster who's found a delightful home in
Silver lake, Joseph seems to have graduated from his party-happy
20's and found his stride as he propels head-long into his 4th
decade. Settling into a life of value and effort appears to be the
soup du jour, and all he wants to know is "Who's coming with me."
What I’m doing with my life
I won't bore you with the specifics of my line of work (insurance),
but I'm my own boss and I work hard.
I'm a founder of a local theatre company, I work on plays and such.
I also play drums and careen in and out of various cover bands.
These are hobbies, and I keep them so to preserve the joy I have
I also run and workout, and try to eat well. I've started learning
French (started!) and I travel to Mexico a lot.
I’m really good at
I've got a great sense of direction and I'm a great driver, which
makes a killer combination. Argument, not as a disagreement but as
a process of reasoning. I think I'm funny (at least people tell me
all the time "you think you're so funny.") Keeping and fostering
friendships. I've got a group of core friends that is over 10 years
old. I can also take care of a girl on the dance floor.
The first things people usually notice about me
At first I usually appear very serious (this is usually me thinking
or just totally neutral). People also think I'm smart, but only
because I keep my mouth shut until I have something to say. I try
to think before I speak and choose my words well.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
-Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, Sartre and Camus, nonfiction, and Stephen
King is a guilty pleasure. (I could list a lot here, but you get
the idea. I'd say I read a lot.)
-Ghostbusters, Noises Off, Glengarry Glen Ross, Four Rooms
-I generally will pick up a book rather than watch TV, but when I
do I'll watch Sportscenter or leftist propaganda (Daily
-Generally classic rock, jazz, 90s rock.
-Spicy (Indian and Mexican), I prefer my pasta cooked over al
dente, Wine dry over fruity, IPA over stout, generally savory over
I eat an inordinate amount of chick peas.
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What I'm going to read next
What I'm reading now
Where I want to travel to
Why people believe in god
Why coincidences are common
Am I making up patterns?
Why people still use chopsticks
Why I can never spell the work definitely right
Are they going to build a house next door and force me to
Is the food I'm eating good for me?
On a typical Friday night I am
Going out on Friday night makes the weekend feels longer. (Fact.) I
like trying new bars. I like art experiences of all types: seeing
plays, museums, music, random stuff, I'm down to check out
anything. Experience is paramount. You never know how something
will hit you. I will, on occasion, be too tired and will stay in,
cook, and read.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
On more than once occasion I've put on music before I leave to go
out to a party, and just stayed in instead and drank and danced.
You should message me if
I messaged you! :)
I should mention that I can be, and have been, in relationships
with religious people. It is possible. But you better bring your
shit to the table and be ready to talk about it. Dostoevski said
something like "Mine is a faith forged in fire" and I'm bringing
Also, I'm not looking for someone to be my whole world, and I don't
want to be anyone else's. This has nothing to do with commitment,
I'm looking to add to my world, not replace. I'm like the life I've
