My self-summary
Pura vida - I like to take my moments as they come and go, then reflect on what they all mean to me and my life.

I think a lot, but I can still have a beer (or a few) and shake my ass at a rock concert.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a science teacher working with awesome young people in and around Watts. The first question most people ask me when they hear this is, "oh man, is it scary working there?" or they say something about having to teach "the bad kids." I believe that these "scary bad kids" have more to offer our future than anyone else because they've seen and been subjected to shit that many other young people have been privileged enough to avoid. I'm really proud to be their teacher.
I’m really good at
learning
cooking
reflection
punning
metacognition
writing
The first things people usually notice about me
I have a very unique voice and a prominent nose.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Walt Whitman, A Clockwork Orange (book), Emerson and all the transcendentalists, political and social and educational theory, philosophy, anti-neoliberalism, Ginsberg, young adult fiction, anything post apolocalypse

Harold and Maude, sci fi/post-apocalyptic shit, zombies, sometimes trashy reality tv hits the spot, horror movies (both good and bad), funny action, feel-good movies, anything about weird characters instead of overused plot devices

The Roots, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Talib Kweli, Atmosphere, Modest Mouse, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, RJD2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Darondo, Bon Iver, Jose Gonzales, and many, many, many more. My number one played song on itunes is Ça Plan Pour Moi by Plastic Bertrand, mostly because of how much i blasted it from my car two summers ago

fresh fruit, green chile (spicy food is my favorite food), grandma's spaghetti and meatballs, ceviche, sushi, ramen (the real kind), oysters, watercress, arugula, basil, tomatoes, soft and ripe cheeses, crackers, soul food, street food, holiday food, and most other foods from anywhere. except for watermelon. watermelon is my food nemesis.
The six things I could never do without
My special kitchen knife, adventurous eating, books, pajamas, candlelight, and lazy Sundays. Or lazy Friday nights if that's when it has to happen. Adventuring. My kitties. Breaking arbitrary rules like how many things to include in a list.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Social justice. Education. Identity. Dislocation. Reconnection.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out at home watching some movies and taking it easy, perhaps with some beer or wine, definitely with some herb. I'm usually pretty wiped out on Fridays from a full week of teaching! I like my lazy Friday nights.

I usually go out on saturdays, sometimes during the day for a fun adventure (sailing or tracking down some good new restaurant or other spontaneous happenings) and sometimes at night for a fun adventure (going to a party or seeing a movie or going to a bar). The fun adventure part is the key.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
In high school I cheated on a physics test. About 15 minutes later I went and told my teacher because I was freaking out. Now I'm a science teacher. My conscience is powerful.
