My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a down to earth guy, but I'm a lover of the creative. I live to learn about the ways art.

My motto is "Head down. Hopes up." I do my best to combine the practical with my wildest imaginings of art.
I am a big fan of the way the world makes stories up out of nowhere and then challenges us mere humans to put it down on paper in a way that folk can relate and move to.

I'm a big fan of jazz, and want to go see more of it in NY.

I love blues music, but I also love the laughter in old blues songs, and tilt my head back saying "Hell Yeah!" like hallelujah when the rhythm gets good to me.

I read a lot about history and politics, but I also love sci-fi and corny jokes and days on the beach and a certain amount of trash tv.

I do my best to stay in shape, (even though I grumble about it sometimes) and try to exercise every day, keeping up with my stretching and calisthenics.

I'm looking for someone special to share time and grow with. I'm looking for someone that might want to appreciate all this fine city has to offer and all I have to offer as well. I'm looking for a woman who likes to laugh, and loves to learn and grow.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm teaching full time at a local college, discovering what it's like to be an official New Yorker after spending most of my life in the Midwest, going to museums and plays and readings, practicing my guitar and harmonica, and then veggin' out watching my shows.

My vocation means that I spend a lot of my time trying to make an image through words on the page. I write. Which means, a lot of the time I spend reading all kinds of other writing, researching, reading up on political shenanigans, and looking stuff up on the internet and in the library, and then, after procrastinating as much as possible, I write the poem or short story or essay I should have been writing all the time, and then I try to get it published!

And then, I get to share all the stuff I've read with my students! I got a pretty good deal, and I'm very happy with it.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Every step I've taken toward writing, writing has taken two steps toward me. I need to do more of it!
I'm also good at playing blues harmonica, learning slide guitar, learning about all kinds of music, researching history, appreciating art in a city that's full of surprises, and riding my (almost) vintage motorcycle around the city in search of adventure.
I'm good at appreciating the sometimes hidden talents in people, and encouraging them to chase their dreams as hard as they can, cause that's the only way I know how to live. I'm good at listening when the chips are down. I'm also a good teacher.
I want to be better at more and more, the older I get.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
First off, I'm 5 ft. 7. Not what I consider short, but some women ain't into it. Oh, well! I've dated women my size and larger and it doesn't seem to be a problem. At all. But I'm a lot more convincing about that in person. You'll have to see me in person to get it.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Writing. I'm writing in my head all the time. Then, I'm thinking about politics and essays and music and art and the future. And then I'm also thinking about music and sex. And food, of course.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Sometimes I'm going to a reading, but I'm trying to go out dancing more. And other times I'm home trying to sweat out a manuscript.
