My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hi there, welcome, pull up a seat!

I am pretty laid back guy looking for a long term relationship. I hope you'll see something here that will perk your interest.

I pretty social guy. I have a couple circles I run in, and I enjoy being someone they can count on. When I travel (which I love to do), my favorite part is meeting people from other cultures. Also, I hang out with cat, Roland, on occasion--he's my role model, I aspire to his laziness.

I'm definitely a bit nerdy, no doubt stemming from my over-education. I like reading classic novels and watching art house films. But I enjoy my escapism as well, so I'm really happy to watch cartoons or see a mindless comedy.

I enjoy cooking, especially a bit of the spicy stuff. My gotos recently have been chicken curry and pulled pork, but I love exploring the culinary world.

That's a pretty simple summary right there. What else? I am an INJF according to the MB what-have-you, but not too strongly in any of those directions, which means I share characteristics with Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, and Nicole Kidman, but I am much cuter than all of them.

What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work for a medium sized publisher managing their web content. It's a little bit techy and little bit markety, a nice little medium. It's a nice place to work and keeps the roof over head. Plus, it's an ever evolving landscape, so that keeps it challenging. But I'm not really just content with just that. I've been kicking around the idea of starting up my own company soon; probably starting as something I do in my spare time, and see where it goes.

So I'm looking to grow, and interested to see where that takes me. I do love this area and wouldn't mind sticking around, but I am open for a change. Most importantly, I want to figure that out with a long term partner, and I'm prepared to be flexible if I need to.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I don't really care what I'm good at, this isn't a report card. So here's one or two things I'm trying out:

I've been trying to learn more about beer recently. I'm looking to brew it a bit more often, though I'm not sure I have the storage space to do it at home.

I want to learn a new language. I was thinking Babylonian. I have a thing for useless dead languages, I guess.

I'm also looking for new delicious recipes to try at home. I've gotten down some good quick things, but now I'm getting into some slower, more planned out stuff.

My dashing good looks of course. Most people don't tell you what they noticed first about you, so you should let me know.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Ouch, tough question. I like a lot of books, but Confederacy of Dunces is usually my first recommendation, followed by The Name of the Rose. I am a big Hemingway fan, as well as Hesse, and any number of others from that generation(-ish). New additions, Moby Dick and Balzac. I read a lot of books for my job, so I don't think it would be fun to list those (except perhaps The Hero with a Thousand Faces, a classic).

I am pretty open when it comes to the movies and music. I like older movies and foreign flicks, as well as anything that stimulates my thought muscle, but I will also go in for the bigger name blockbusters and cute kid films, like Up. Some of my favorite movies include The Big Lebowski, Crimes and Misdemeanors, and anything Wes Anderson.

Music I believe is situation appropriate. If I am out having a drink, then jazz is the best; if I'm driving in the car, I like something up tempo to keep me awake. 80s music is always appropriate, especially the more inappropriate the music. If I am relaxing at home, or throwing a party, I generally like some mellow music with a fun kick--Slavic Soul Party, anyone?

I like food, both that which I cook and that which I buy. The cooking comes from being raised in a household where my mother was a culinary chef. I love going to new restaurants and trying odd and exotic new flavors. Tasty, spicy, healthy and daring, that's the way to go. Bonus Pro-tip: The key to making good nachos is layering--try it out, it will improve your crop by at least 25%.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. My phone. Not because I like talking on it, or even texting that much, but because I keep everything on it, and I would be quite lost as to what to do next if I didn't have it. Honorable Mention: the phone charger.

2. My watch. I need it to tell time, because without it I would have to look at my phone, or, heaven forbid, a clock. I enjoy being on time, something that was ground into my skull after four years of high-school football and wrestling.

3. Friends and family. This probably would rank higher if these were ranked in order. To quote one of my favorite lines, these are the memories that make me a wealthy soul.

4. My laptop. I am on this all the time, from writing or Powerpoint at work to Hulu and Netflix at home. Computers in generally have been an interest of mine for a long time, since we got our first family computer (I think a Mac II of some flavor). If you are interested, I am a Windows/Linux dual-boot sort of guy.

5. The beach on Lake Michigan. I grew up on this beach, and it is one of the places that I can I always return to if I need to chill and rejuvenate myself. It is so peaceful, from high up on the dunes overlooking everything amid the gently blowing birch, to the vast expanse of blue with a shimmer of green that laps continuously. The infinite return of waves ebbing and the breeze whistling by reminds me of my place and significance, in a good way, and I always leave feeling a better person.

6. my cat Roland. He is just awesome.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I spend way too much time thinking about my work, which is why I need someone to help me take a break from that. When I get the chance I like to solve puzzles, more the engineering type then the logical--the best puzzles of all are figuring out what makes people tick. I enjoy the crosswords too. Honestly though, I wish I could spend more time not thinking, but rather in the empty and calm embrace of a loved one. Sounds cheesy, but I am pretty sure that is a true statement.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Doing something new, hopefully. Either out with my friends checking out some new place or catching a show, but at the same time I love my favorite places and equally enjoy relaxing at home with a good cuddler. My current fave though is hors d'oeuvres and a bourbon before meeting friends for a post week chill out session.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

I don't like keeping secrets, but I will tell you that I distrust really tall people. What are they doing way up there? What secrets are they keeping from us?
