We just changed the bottom of people's profiles so that now they
get nifty awards as they answer match questions, and our system
learns more about them. I'm sure you will find some of them
accurate, and some of them less accurate, but remember: you can
always change them by re-answering old questions!
Course, figuring out WHICH old questions to re-answer is up to you.
;)
Enjoy!

Profile Awards
We just changed the header area to take up less vertical space and
also made the whole mail icon go pink when you have messages. Are
you excited? Hello? Anyone ... is this thing on?

A new, prettier, more small-screen friendly version of QuickMatch
is on the way. Those of you with laptops won't have to go through
the whole scroll, click, scroll, click, scroll, click, etc thing
anymore. Soon it will be easier than ever to reject someone based
on a hasty, shallow reaction to their profile and/or
self-summary!
I'm working on the design right now and hope to have it up sometime
within the next week or so.

I love our new stalkers feature
So this weekend while everyone else was barbecuing, my girlfriend
and I realized we didn't have a barbecue and decided to go to the
city of brotherly love. We parked ourselves in the Club Quarters
hotel on 16th and Chestnut, and proceeded to explore several areas
of the city, including the historic district ("look, it's the
liberty bell ... it's a bell ... with a crack in it!"), old city --
including my local bar from back when I lived there in 2005, Center
City, Chinatown, and the Italian market area.
Philly's a really nice city with a totally different vibe than New
York. I didn't live there long enough to really get to know the
place, which I've always thought was kind of unfortunate, but it's
nice to be able to spend an inexpensive weekend sightseeing there.
Hopefully we'll get back again soon.

We're getting a lot of vitriol and anger about the new design,
which doesn't surprise me. We're also getting more compliments than
the last time we redesigned. What's funny is that on any website,
whenever you redesign, the vast majority of people who care enough
to comment, care in a negative way: meaning they liked the old site
and are frustrated by the change.
I understand that, but as someone who's been using the new site for
weeks now, I assure you: once you get used to it, it is WAY better
than the old site.
Please bear with us as we work out the bugs and kinks - the site's
not perfect in every browser on every computer, but we'll do our
best to get it there.

Our Redesign is Live
We finally fixed OkCupid so it doesn't break the back button
anymore. Truly, this is a great day for mankind.
More info on the redesign coming soon.

Hooray back button!
Well, Chris Coyne mentioned it on the front page so I guess it's
safe to do so here: the big project that's been consuming most of
my time in 2007 is a total OkCupid site overhaul. Don't fear:
nearly all of the features you know and love are being retained
(some are even being improved) but we've engaged a really talented
designer to give us a suave new look, and I've been rewriting and
adapting existing code to take advantage of it ... not to mention
doing some new, fun tricks.
The redesign should improve overall site navigation, get rid of
some pesky complaints people have with this one, and generally make
things look cleaner and more professional. It'll probably also
introduce a whole NEW set of stuff for you guys to complain about!
Hooray!
In a couple weeks maybe I'll post a screenshot here. In the
meantime: consider yourself notified. Big changes are afoot!

New Design
It served me well for two years, but I decided I ought to get rid
of the black and white headshot of me in a baseball cap that made
me look dramatically hotter than I actually am. I replaced it with
a picture taken just a couple weeks ago in Newport Beach. I also
nuked the Paris pic, since it was pretty much the same as the
Newport pic except older (and I was fatter in it, heh).
This has been the least exciting OkCupid journal entry ever. End
transmission.

How many characters can our journal headlines contain? The answer,
my friends, is 50. This is pertinent to me and ... like two other
people.
Rock on, OkCupid Users, rock on.
