My self-summary
I grew up in California, went to undergrad in Massachusetts, spent four years living in Europe, three in Nashville for grad school, and I just moved to Arizona.

I'm quick to make friends and I'm an excellent conversationalist. Let's have one.

In person.
What I’m doing with my life
Professionally, I'm this close to earning a clinical doctorate in audiology. That means I'll be that guy who does hearing tests and programs hearing aids for your parents or grandparents. (Or for you someday!)

Right now I'm delightfully not tied down by kids (though I definitely want them someday!), a mortgage, or other stuff like that. So I spend my free time playing music, Ultimate Frisbee (maybe when it cools down), and traveling.
I’m really good at
Giving compliments.
Stopping to smell roses (aka appreciating simple pleasures in life)
Procrastinating.
Making a silk purse out of a sow's ear (aka making the best of a bad situation, finding silver linings on clouds) *how do some people not know these catchphrases.
Oh! And Catchphrase!

Also, I'll kick your ass in pool, darts, and/or foosball, but go ahead and challenge me anyway. Loser buys ice cream. :)
The first things people usually notice about me
I am what they call a "mench" :)

and that I grew a beard.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Frankly, I'd rather go outside and play/travel/socialize than watch TV or read a book. But since you asked...

Books: I prefer non-fiction over fiction and totally dig Malcolm Gladwell.
Movies: Favorites include Forrest Gump, the Shawshank Redemption, Remember the Titans, and That Thing You Do.
Latest recommendations: Captain Phillips, the Lego Movie
Shows: Other than sports (and I love me some sports!) the only show I dedicate any time to is the Sing-Off. (And Whose Line is It Anyway?)
Music: I know a lot of music and my tastes are diverse, ranging from Sinatra to the Band Perry. Meet me at the Big Bang one night, and I'll show you what I mean.
Food: I am a food-sharer and I have a broad palate. I crush Indian buffets and Mom's lasagna.
The six things I could never do without
Yeah yeah yeah...friends, family, oxygen, etc.
All true, but not insightful! Try these:

1) Piano. Joy when I'm up; therapy when I'm down.
2) Lactaid Milk. I'm not lactose intolerant - it just tastes better.
3) Toothbrush. If my mouth doesn't feel clean, I don't feel clean.
4) Alarm clock. I'm a night owl by nature. I never want to start sleeping...I also never want to stop.
5) Cell phone. I tried to avoid the obvious here, but traveling abroad without cell service made me realize how much we've come to depend on the stupid things! (I dare you to airplane-mode your phone for 24 hours!) I just try not to be a slave to it.
6) Perspective. (with a sense of humor) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEY58fiSK8E
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how freaking amazing my life is!
On a typical Friday night I am
thankful. And happy. :)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If I don't want to get into both your mind as well as your pants, this isn't going to work.

Sorry...
