My self-summary
I'm a humanist and amateur human with aspirations of going pro. I was once trying to find that happy medium between being an adventurer and a homebody but have since given up and vacillate between the two.

Although the restaurant scene is toxic for my mental health, I'm all about cooking. I'm focusing on grilling and simple Mexican fusion at the moment, but my roots are in French and Italian cuisine. No other activity makes me feel quite as fulfilled.

I've got an insanely eclectic taste in music, but these days I've been grooving on classic hip-hop and jam bands primarily.

Having grown up in the woods and on the water, nature's kind of a big thing for me. Hikes are the best way for me to relax, and sailing's become worlds more fun now that I don't race boats anymore!

I like both frivolity and profundity, and am almost always down for whatever as long as it's within (some) reason.
What I’m doing with my life
Bussing tables and staying sober one day at a time.

I want to escape the restaurant industry ASAP and get back into college so I can chase my dream career of working with addicts and alcoholics.

Attempting to use my privilege for good.

I spend my spare time doing casual outdoorsy shit, reading, cooking, trolling reddit and tumblr, and playing some vidya games.
I’m really good at
- reaching things on high surfaces
- turning a fridge full of god-knows-what into a bangin' three-course meal
- cooking, period
- wearing pink bandanas, v-necks, and tiny pants #taskforce
- being the big spoon
- making people laugh and feel simultaneously happy and awkward
- decisiveness
The first things people usually notice about me
My height and long hair. I also have young Mick Jagger lips.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Some of my favorite literary periods:
Classical (Greek&Roman), English & Italian Renaissance, English/Russian/German Romantic & Modern, American Colonial, Realist & Modern

Some of my favorite authors/playwrights:
I read a good deal, but there's so much to read that it's daunting. I'm current in A Song of Ice and Fire, and have started on Leo Strauss's compendium of political philosophy.
I'm game for anything...except for Aristotle. Fuck that guy.

Shows:
Downton Abbey, Six Feet Under, Dead Like Me, Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Sherlock, Supernatural, Copper, Top Gear, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, The Daily Show/Colbert Report, Boardwalk Empire, Arrested Development, The Wire, Entourage, Game of Thrones, True Blood, Dexter, Weeds (up through season 6's egregious jumping of the shark), Breaking Bad, Mythbusters, Through the Wormhole, How the Universe was Made (Science channel is lovely)
Animated:
Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Neon Genesis Evangelion, FMA: Brotherhood, Samurai Champloo (with the fantastic Nujabes OST), Case Closed, Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gravity Falls, YuYu Hakusho, Anything by Osamu Tezuka and Miyazaki (both Hayao and Goro)

Movies: My favorite genres are SciFi, Horror, and questionable RomComs
Anything of Quentin Tarantino's (Reservoir Dogs being my favorite, Anything of Scorcese's, Studio Ghibli's entire filmography, Most Disney movies (Especially Beauty and the Beast and TANGLED), Garden State, (500) Days of Summer, Craigslist Joe, Into The Wild, Midnight in Paris, Annie Hall, Jeepers Creepers, Cabin in the Woods, Grave Encounters, Scanners, The Howling II (the only movie Christopher Lee ever apologized for being in), Jesus Christ: Vampire Slayer, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Shrooms, Stay Alive, Hausu, The Room (Tommy Wiseau as EVERYTHING), LOTR, Star Wars IV-VII, Indiana Jones (The Last Crusade is my favorite), Back to the Future I&II, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, etc. the list goes on and on and on

Music:
I've got an eclectic taste and am open to anything as long as the musicians are skilled and know what they're doing. I'm a hip-hop scholar and a dead-head who also happens to love math-rock, prog metal, jazz, and classical music as well (especially those Russian ballets, god damn are they good).

Food:
Good, fresh bread is the most underrated food item ever.
I love Ethiopian, Korean, Punjabi, and Mexican food the most.
But I still go nuts over a simple grilled cheese.

Make me boudin noir and/or wiener schnitzel ala Holstein and I will immediately fall in love with you.
The six things I could never do without
1. mise-en-place
2. love
3. pineapples
4. the printed word/note
5. the ocean
6. the word "fuck"
I spend a lot of time thinking about
- music and lyrics, both existing and not yet written
- the universality of human thought and experience
- how necessary, interesting, and cool plants are
- social contract theory
- flavor possibilities for both eating and vaping
- how to not be such a prick
- barbeque sauce recipes
- whatever song is on my mund at the time, usually sung to myself in Jack Black's voice
On a typical Friday night I am
Either working, reading at home, or out at a concert/party.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I abhor the tumblr Social Justice community and see the a majority of them as whiny, entitled, special snowflakes who bully others and hurt the movement they claim to support.

I'd like to think that I hate SJWs not because I'm a cishet white guy but because they're whiny, manipulative, and arrogant slacktivists.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 18–40
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You want to actually strike up a conversation. We both know you can do better than just a "hi"!

We have things in common and you're curious. It helps if you take yourself as seriously as I do, which is not all that much.
