On a less outward level, they notice that I'm contemplative, a little (maybe more than a little) sarcastic, and I ramble a lot when I'm talking about something I find really interesting.
TV and movies: I'm a sci-fi nerd (don't worry, I have social skills, I promise!), so Star Trek (all of them), Star Wars (not the new ones), Stargate (Sg-1, Atlantis, Universe), and Battlestar Galactica. Also some funny stuff, such as Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Louie, The IT Crowd and others. For movies: Any sci-fi flick or anything that makes me think. I also enjoy a goofy comedy now and again.
Music: M83, Yeasayer, Radiohead, The National, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Ride, Pixies, Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, Ringo Deathstarr, Twin Shadow, The Antlers, Thrice, Guided By Voices, Mission of Burma, Further Seems Forever, Husker Dü. I'm not the kind of person that listens to what's on the radio, but I'm not too judgmental of people who do.
I do a ton of reading, but I honestly don't read much fiction. My favorite things to read about are science and technology (space, in particular), politics (mostly international politics), and economists blabbing about statistics. My current favorite publications are Wired, Foreign Policy and Fast Company. At the moment, I'm on a Middle Eastern politics kick, and am reading All The Shah's Men by Stephen Kinzer.
