My self-summary
Hollis. 26 years old. Shortish tallish with brownish blondish hair. People tell me I'm the loudest quiet person they know.

People have variously described me as smart, sarcastic, thoughtful, funny, small in size but large in personality, creative, classy, having a voice that sounds very different on the phone vs. real life, fiery, cranky after night shifts, and as the whitest looking half-Puerto Rican they've met.

I grew up outside of D.C, went to NYC for college and kind of reluctantly came back for work after school. For some reason I was really disdainful of D.C as a teenager (probably because teenagers are generally awful) but I've grown to realize that it can be kind of awesome. Or was I right as a teenager and now D.C is just better than it was? I don't know. I was probably both awful AND right.

As much as I enjoy D.C these days, I absolutely intend to move away within the next 5 years, at least for a period of time. Part of what's great about my job is that I can work almost anywhere.
What I’m doing with my life
Nurse at Children's Medical Center in DC. Right now I work on the Surgical Care Unit. I passed my certified pediatric nurse exam last year, so now I have an excessive number of initials I can put after my name if I really want to feel pretentious. My second job is going to as many concerts as I can. I'm going to be moving to the intensive care unit in January, a move that I am equal parts excited and horrified about. I also spend a decent amount of time coveting my parent's dog and hating that my building is pet-free. I may have missed my calling as a dog whisperer.
I’m really good at
Listening, laughing loudly, laughing quietly, laughing silently, reading, putting in IV's, typing fast, dancing like I'm in a Young MC music video, adding things to my Netflix queue, organizing my Netflix queue, camping, snowboarding, picking up just enough of any language to be able to get around in that country. I'm also excellent at playing the guitar poorly.

I've been cooking a lot lately. I got a food processor for Christmas, so things are about to get fancy up in here.

I am not very good at walking through doors without whacking my shoulders/elbows on the frame. Apparently my spatial recognition is faulty.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes. A boy once told me they're the color of poop, but that was in 5th grade, and everyone since then has said that is patently false. And my smile.

The six things I could never do without
Coffee as soon as I wake up, a book, toothpaste, sunshine, my camera, music
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Where to travel to next. Whether to go back to school at some point to become a nurse practitioner. What to eat. What live music I can see next. If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, would JFK still have been assassinated, do you think? What to put in my apocalypse bunker.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either out with a few friends or in with a few friends. I like to go out and have a drink and maybe dance or play shuffleboard or pool. But honestly, I'm equally as happy watching a movie with my friends at home or playing a game. I dominate German board games. I'm addicted to those Lego video games. I like to break it down with Dance Central. I am not afraid to go to concerts alone.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Apparently I am what my friends have designated as "an aggressive spooner". I guess I spoon anyone and anything in my sleep. One friend tried to build a wall of pillows to protect herself from me and, per her retelling, I "punched the pillows out of the way" and went ahead and got in there. I'm asleep, I can't help it? Sorry. You've been forewarned.
