My self-summary
I recently moved to Durham, spent the last four years in Wilmington and from Long Island prior to NC. I have no idea where I'm headed next, it's an adventure. I miss NYC and don't see myself in a small town again although who knows where life will lead.

My only child is 24 and has always been a joy, amazingly even through her teens. My goldendoodle Duffy is 96 pounds of goofy and thinks he's my kid too.

I am curious, half Norwegian and half Irish, secure, grateful, relatively intelligent, irreverant and much more. I try to find a lesson in every situation and believe there is always something to be learned. As with everyone else in our age group, I have had my share of trials and tribulations and I am thankful for the experiences. Of course I would rather have learned it all the easy way, but that isn't always a choice.

You should also be willing to try new things, honest to a fault, generally happy and ready to laugh with gusto, optimistic, and much more.
What I’m doing with my life
I teach preschool and it's about young, impressionable minds. I was a permanent sub at a middle school in New York for about nine years and adored the age group and I'm hoping to be involved with adolescents again. My work before education was in the legal field as a title closer. I traveled all over NYC and LI, in and out of law offices all day and after about thirteen years of stress I went in my original direction.
I’m really good at
cooking most things and making the kitchen a mess, keeping the person company while they clean the mess after dinner, packing my bag(s) to travel anywhere anytime, laughing until it truly hurts, reading a map, popping a champagne cork, skimming the last pages of a book because I can't wait until the end and having to go back and reread it later
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes. My smile. My shoes usually match.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Just the thought of answering which books are my favorite makes my head spin. There are too many books and authors to list and I almost would feel guilty leaving one out. Maybe I should write that under the private thing I'm willing to share. Later.

Movies: I realize there's a rescue theme but they are still favorites....E.T., Saving Private Ryan and Finding Nemo

Music: it's very mood driven. Josh Groban, Ray Charles, The Beatles, Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Sinatra, The Who, Aerosmith, Michael Buble. I often like movie scores and TV soundtracks. I can listen to some rap, classical and opera but haven't heard a country song I can tolerate.

Food: there isn't much I don't like and I'm willing to try most anything. I only eat beef in the form of Corned beef and cabbage twice a year and I cannot say no to a great bagel with salmon, capers and red onions.

TV: it's usually on HGTV or MSNBC.
The six things I could never do without
I found out several years ago that what I thought I couldn't live without was not the case. The basic things like food, water and shelter are obvious. There are many things I certainly would rather live with than without.
On a typical Friday night I am
truly enjoying adult conversation. Recently I started dancing again, swing, cha cha, etc. and would love someone to partner me on the dance floor.
