I grew up near Green Bay, and moved to Madison's isthmus 7 years
ago for college, where I graduated with a degree in
Math. I love living downtown:
it's where I work, it's where I play, it's where the teams who do
nothing but disappoint me season after season compete.
Right now, I work for an insurance company, which is giving me
solid job experience to become an
actuary. Ideally, I'd like to work at a
health insurance company to fix health care.
In the future, I'd love to analyze The Big Picture - think stuff
like Freakonomics, or what Nate Silver's been doing for both
baseball and politics. I'd love to be the guy who surprises the
world with some brilliant insights about things they took for
granted.
In my off-time, I like to jog, cook, read, lift weights, go out to
eat, and check out live events of all sorts.
Hitting 20 through 15 in Cricket. Don't expect me to hit a
bullseye, though.
My favorite books are the Callahan series by Spider Robinson.
They're all about a bar where the most important motto is 'Shared
pain is lessened, shared joy is increased.' I still thumb through
my copies, 10-12 years after my first read. I hate to use the word
'inspirational' to describe anything with so many puns, but it
is.
My favorite shows that are on right now: 30 Rock, Mad Men, Venture
Bros., Burn Notice, and South Park. Historically, Futurama (coming
back! maybe? kinda yes?), Mr. Show, Flying Circus, Veronica Mars,
Newsradio, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and Arrested
Development.
As much of a cliche it is, I'm part of the 'anything but country
and heavy metal' crowd as far as will-not-get-super-pissed tunage.
I listen to a lot of
Aesop Rock, Blockhead,
Beatles,
Talking Heads, MF Doom,
Rolling Stones, Clash, Kinks, Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, a smattering of
jazz, and whatever song's next on the
Rock Band setlist.
Favorite food: my scrambled eggs. I make 'em nice.
My cell phone
Badger tickets - why must college
sports have the longest fucking
offseason?
My limbs - all four, I don't play favorites!
My one kick-ass skillet
Almonds
The fantasy sports leagues I have with my friends. Even though I'm
never going to win any of them.
Science - Not anything particular, but I like to know more about
how the world around me works.
Math - Love me some
numbers!
My next actuarial exam - they are not fun times.
Sports - anything
Badgers primarily. One of the big
reasons I haven't moved from the UW is a constant need to be among
the Crease Creatures.
Out socializing! I spend enough time not having fun at work with
people I only kind of tolerate. Doesn't matter if it's just hanging
out at a friends house, going to a bar, checking out a show, I
don't have to wake up at 7 the next morning. I take advantage of
that fact.
I'm not dishwasher safe.
You want to grab a burger and a beer and goof on life for a few
hours sometime.
