My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a DC native who returned after having spent six years earning my Bachelors and MBA at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Currently I'm a graduate student at George Washington University working towards a PhD. I'm a social person and really enjoy being surrounded by my friends. Aside from the various interests listed later on in this profile, I really enjoy playing board games - strategy games, not party games. Another hobby of mine is scuba diving, which I developed while visiting Hawaii years ago. After visiting once, I've come to the decision that I would be most happy if I could find a way to live on those islands some day.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Right now I'm working towards a PhD in Operations Research & Management Science at the George Washington University. My focus is on financial modeling of the production of alternative biofuels. Hopefully I'll be done here in the next year or two and afterwards I plan on moving out into the private sector in a related industry. I'd like to see if we can make the production of these fuels economical, which would enable the U.S. to potentially be self-sufficient with regards to liquid fuel requirements.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Being Captain Obvious. Also, being pretty bad at telling stories. I tend to forget important parts mid-story (and remember them later on when it's useless information) so the stories tend to come out in a confusing manner.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably my beard. I'd like to say it's my smile, but it's probably the beard.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Song of Ice and Fire, The Lord of the Rings, Dresden Files, Mistborn trilogy, anything by Michael Lewis (especially Moneyball and Liar's Poker), and economics-based literature (Stiglitz, Krugman, etc.)

Movies: Pretty much anything that's not a completely sappy romance/romantic comedy. My top 5 movies would probably be (in no particular order): The Big Lebowski, Star Wars (original trilogy), The Dark Knight, Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

TV: Anything Star Trek (especially DS9), Doctor Who, the Wire, Deadwood, A Game of Thrones, Carnivale, Archer, Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, Homeland, Breaking Bad

Music: Anything that's not country. I tend to lag behind on musical trends (sorry, I'm not a hipster) so I rely on friends to recommend singers/groups to me. Some of my favorite artists include: Pearl Jam, the Unicorns, the Pixies, Tool, and the Deftones.

Food: I'll give pretty much anything that looks/smells tasty a try. Anything except green beans, that is. But that's a story for another time.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Aside from the standard 'family and friends' here are my 6:

1. the Internet
2. caffeine
3. my Kindle
4. my Passport
5. a good Scotch (Laphroaig or Lagavulin are great)
6. my Car
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What I'm going to do tonight and/or this weekend.

How the Nationals and/or Redskins will do in their upcoming game.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Either out at a bar with my friends in Arlington or staying in and relaxing while watching some movie or tv show on Netflix or playing a game.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I enjoy karaoke (especially when I've had a few drinks) and am terrible at dancing.

Also, I am addicted to Top Chef and all derivations of that show.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You're interested in grabbing a beer and chatting about baseball or football.

You want to kick back, relax, and watch some Star Trek with a good bottle of scotch and a friend.

You like discussing economics and believe that supply-side theory is deader than dead.

You don't mind introducing someone to the bar/club scene of DC since I have little to no knowledge about it.
