I am bright, dark, and open.

My Self-Summary

I am me, a world unto myself. Okay, that's not very descriptive. One of my best friends once asked me, "Is it lonely being as smart as you are?" I didn't know quite how to take that. I consider myself intelligent and I enjoy surrounding myself with genuinely intelligent, funny people. Those two things go so far in life.

I enjoy making other people laugh. I like telling jokes and sending my friends emails about ridiculous things in the world today. Satire, blasphemy, and Fundamentalists never get old.

I try to keep a pretty open-mind. For example, I am an Atheist. However, I do see some utility in other religions. One of my friends had been depressed in the past and had a miscarriage recently. She was already on anti-depressants, but I tried to practice Zen Meditation and Yoga with her. They are both effective ways at dealing with stress. I had also gone through depression, so I wanted to help her avoid that as best I could. Your friends can be like a second family to you.

What I’m doing with my life

Right now, I'm keeping myself occupied with work and school. I've got one class left to get my associates in Mathematics, and then I can go finish up my bachelors in Information Assurance. I currently work at PayPal, doing internal technical support. I've only been there two months, but I was offered a better position already. Hopefully it works out.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

The most well-written book I've ever read was Swann's Way, by Marcel Proust. Funniest book was probably one of the ones involving Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse, although Dave Barry is hilarious too. Best science fiction book would have to be The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein. Favorite political book is Free To Choose, by Milton Friedman. The best technical book I've read is Secrets and Lies, by Bruce Schneier. I'd have to say the best fantasy novels are the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman. Best children's story is Where the Wild Things Are. The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins was a fascinating book, but I'll only ever recommend it to agnostics or atheists. I would recommend everyone read 1984 by George Orwell. And anything by William Shakespeare would be among the best plays.

My favorite movies change a lot, but right now they are (in no particular order) Donnie Darko, Lost in Translation, Blade Runner, Garden State, Schindler's List, Juno, Serenity, V for Vendetta, Gattaca, The Lord of the Rings, Match Point, and Star Wars. TV shows are Firefly, BBC's The Office, Band of Brothers, The Daily Show, The Tudors, and the Angels in America mini-series.

As far as music, I enjoy Massive Attack, Thelonious Monk, Johnny Cash, Johann Sebastian Bach, Sufjan Stevens, and Niyaz. I've recently discovered Sharron Kraus, Helena Espvall, and Meg Baird. Currently, I'm listening to Elliot Smith.

My favorite foods are sushi, chicken, mushrooms, and cheesecake. Almost all cuisines have plenty to offer, but I'm not a big fan of German and Vietnamese (too spicy). As far as alcohol, I enjoy Scotch and Absinthe.
