I am smart, assertive, and responsible.
My Self-Summary
Hi folks, thanks for checking out my profile. I'm a middle-aged
would-be geek who is underemployed, has an attitude, and basks in a
mix of complex cynicism and abstract hope. In other news, I'm a bi
poly switch (that means greedy, but picky, FYI). I have been known
to train minions for food.
What I’m doing with my life
In between my day job and my nap time, I'm taking a good look at
myself and my life and figuring where to go from here. Thus the
updating of my entry on OKCupid. Travel is probably in my future.
My career is progressing nicely but I need to scrape up some cash.
I'm feeling the nesting urge but resisting it so far. I'd prefer to
be
nomadic.
I’m really good at
Stuff. Common sense and useful kind of stuff, and teaching of same.
"Specialization is for insects," is one of my favorite quotes. I'm
not a doctor, but I can save lives. I'm not an accountant, but I
can sling a budget. I'm not a police officer, but I've made
arrests. I'm not a lawyer but I've been to court and I can read
cases. I'm not a firefighter because I like my lungs the way they
are. I'm not an academic, but I teach and do research. I'm not a
locksmith, but I can make keys and pin cores. I'm not a hacker but
I've been known to fake it. I'm neither a graphics designer nor a
writer, but I can dirty pixels and throw together text. You get the
idea. "Jack of all trades is master of none," that is true, but
I'll be Jack as long as I can get away with it.
The first things people usually notice about me
Balding, glasses, attitude.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Lots of
science fiction including books
by
Heinlein,
S.M.
Stirling, Lois McMaster
Bujold, C.J.
Cherryh and
David Drake. I have a
not-so-secret weakness for the game
Star Fleet Battles. Movies
are good, when I can make time for them. I eat food, mostly, aside
from
Taco Bell.
The six things I could never do without
Honor, integrity, self-worth, perseverance, Google and hope.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Right and wrong, life and death, politics and the future.
On a typical Friday night I am
slaving over a steering wheel, keyboard, and/or Blackberry;
followed by an exciting night proving someone wrong on the
Internet, digesting reading material, prowling dark alleys, and/or
jumping over fences. Not always in that order.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I deeply regret not having the opportunity to serve my country
despite much trying.
You should message me if
I sound interesting or you think you might know me.
