I like cheap cars, secondhand jeans, good surf, and expensive
I've always wanted to be myself when I grow up.
What I’m doing with my life
Recently left my previous venture to give my full focus to the film industry work that has had me switching shifts with people for almost a year now. Art department is my bread and butter, but I swing over to lights and camera on my personal projects and smaller things with friends.
I love the variety of things I do, where a single week can have me at a secret concert filming a beer commercial with rappers I've actually heard of, working on a perfect replica of the family living room from Rick and Morty for a music video, and trying to solve the director's need for a comically oversized set of fake teeth. I frequently wonder what the hell am I doing and how did I finagle getting paid to do it.
I’m really good at
It's an even tie between cooking and fixing cars. And one time I
succeeded in combining the two by jamming some tinfoil-wrapped
italian sausage in between the manifolds of my old diesel Mercedes
before taking a drive up to Santa Barbara. Sounds weird and
potentially dangerous, but the end result was quite good.
I'm really bad at:
Remembering where I left things like my phone or keys (or my entire
car, as one friend astutely pointed out), eating a proper breakfast
(it usually ends up being a rockstar on the way out the door), and
of course I am more or less incapable of waking up early. All the
best fun is at night though, right?
The first things people usually notice about me
I meet a lot of people all the time (freelance life) and the two examples that stick out from recently are someone nearly shouting with enthusiasm that I 'smell like candy' as well as someone else telling me they loved my hair.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Oryx and Crake (Margaret Atwood), Hemingway, Anthony Bourdain, Freakonomics
Music: I've been on a girly pop music kick all week, with The Bird and The Bee, Regina Spektor, Yelle, Serebro, Dragonette, and STRFKR dominating the lineup.
Shows: I'm chewing my way through all the iterations of Star Trek, but if it means junk food and blanket forts I'm totally into that show you love to binge on netflix too.
The six things I could never do without
six things that actually live in the backpack that goes everywhere
with me: change of clothes just in case, passport, netbook,
swingtop water bottle, grid paper notebook, and a comically large
set of headphones. I don't know that all this stuff is necessary,
but it's what goes everywhere with me.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Is there anything better than french fry pizza?
How long would it take for me to eat my own weight in pudding?
Would I hate pudding forever afterwards? If I molded it in the
shape of myself would that be weird?
On a typical Friday night I am
Gallavanting around North Hollywood and migrating downtown to show
new friends around the city and reassure them that it's not the end
of the world when they're puking in a gutter on 8th street. And
then getting taco bell.
*I've decided this section should be 'what I did on the most recent
friday when I wrote this' because it's really frustrating to read
'dunno lol no such thing as typical friday hehe'
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I pet wandering mystery cats with no regard for toxoplasmosis.
I'm the only person on okcupid who's never been to Machu Picchu.
You should message me if
You're a fan of outings where the planning consists of 'let's do a thing' and winging it from there. I'd rather make things up as I go than waste time making plans.
You self-describe as nerdy, and will still humor me when I only know a little bit about the particular video games and tv shows you're into.
You want to go surfing with me! (when the weather warms up)
When it comes to fun, you roll your own. (this is a figure of speech, not a weed reference. sorry.)
