My self-summary
After taking about a month off and not really checking in here at all, I'm back.

I bartend, work for theatre companies as a manager/tech, and generally try to keep the lights on and myself sane. I've been in Chicago for about seven years, but I've lived everywhere from Alaska to North Carolina. Beyond that I guess I'll to this bullet point style:

* I like pets, but don't have any of my own.
* I love stories in almost any form.
* Comic Books, Video Games, and NBA Basketball are all things I love, but I don't demand they be things you love. I promise I can handle a normal conversation too.
* Anything can be turned into a joke, and I refuse to take life too seriously.
* Sometimes my idea of a perfect night is cuddling on the couch and watching cartoons.
What I’m doing with my life
Focusing on the things that make me happy.
I’m really good at
Defusing tense situations.
It's basically what I get paid to do, working with performers, artists, and drunks for a living.

I can have a decent conversation with almost anyone.
The first things people usually notice about me
I don't know about notice, but I tend to get compliments on my hair.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Favorite Authors include David Eddings, Christopher Moore, Richard Stark, Neil Gaiman, Bill Simmons, Jim Butcher, Hunter S. Thompson, Douglas Adams, Brad Meltzer, Kate Griffin, Christopher Ryan, Warren Ellis and many more. Generally my favorite genres are Fantasy, Mystery, Thrillers, and Social/Academic stuff.

I'm a BIG comic book geek, and have a pretty solid collection of graphic novels. Favorites include Transmetropolitan, 100 Bullets, Alias, Fables, Chew, Planetary, and Unwritten. Personally I feel like if you tell me you hate comics, then no one has shown you the right book.

I enjoy movies, as long as they don't take themselves too seriously. My favorite films are the ones where the actors look like they would do it for free because it seems like so much fun. Kevin Smith, Joss Whedon and Edgar Wright are some of my favorite directors. I love "bad" movies that are ridiculous and silly. But I'm also a fan of documentaries, because I love learning new things.

Haven't had cable for over three years, so most all of the TV I watch is through Netflix. More often then not I'll be watching Archer, Top Gear (BBC), Spaced, West Wing, Ugly Americans, Sherlock, Firefly, or trying something new.

Music is great, and I love a great song writer no matter what the genre. I tend to listen to folk influenced stuff or classic rock the most, but depending on my mood I'll listen to almost anything. Favorites include Paul Simon, The Civil Wars, Newton Faulkner, Randy Newman, Led Zeppelin, The Police, etc. With that being said, I don't listen to as much as most of my friends, and I'm really bad at following the latest hits and new bands.
The six things I could never do without
tough. I'm one of those people who at multiple times during my life has given up pretty much everything while moving across the country. If I wanted to put it sort of generally I'd say: Books, Friends, Imagination, Wonder, Games, and a Towel.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Is there any way I could get a job in an NBA front office? Is there such a thing as "regular hours" in the arts? Do our self assigned labels divide us more then they help us identify ourselves? When will the editors at DC Comics stop screwing around and realize they are causing more problems then they fix? Why can't we as a nation stop using faith as a political weapon.
On a typical Friday night I am
Who knows. Some nights I work until 4 a.m. (Yeah, I bartend at one of those bars.) Maybe I'll get together with friends either at a quiet bar or in someone's home for a board game. Or I may just settle down for an evening of pizza by the slice, video games or a good book.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I don't know if this is really private, but it's definitely strange: Sitcoms make me physically uncomfortable. It's actually kind of hard for me to sit in a room that has a sitcom on the tv. So I will totally agree with you that How I Met Your Mother is awesome, I just won't watch it with you.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 21–45
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, casual sex
You should message me if
You are interested in saying "Hi." I want a mental, emotional and physical relationship that's low maintenance so please know who you are before you contact me. Also, just a heads up that I'm pretty much exclusively looking in the Chicago area. Nothing against you other ladies, just not looking for any sort of long distance thing.
