I am a science lovin geek, open minded, and curiois.

My Self-Summary

I moved to Saratoga Springs in Jan 2008 from the west coast for my job. I bought a house and a dog so I’m well on my way to the stereotypical American dream. Except I hope to move back to the west coast, if not overseas for a while, when my job here is done in June 2011.

I'm passionate about living happy and enjoying life. To that end I'm also passionate about my family and friends, learning more about the world every day, great conversations with good people, science and history, sharing great experiences with anyone and everyone, doing nice things for people just to see them smile, and being a good person every day, because these are the things that I enjoy the most.

I exercise regularly and eat healthy (most of the time) to stay in good shape. I'm an optimistic realist with a sense of humor about the world. I love to make fun of it, my friends, random people, and myself. While I always try to laugh and have fun I do know when and how to be mature and serious.

I love science (especially astronomy), learning about almost anything, and having great conversations about anything and looking things up online. I’m also a history buff, the older the better. I love finding out the origins of things and how they’ve changed through time. Consequently, I’m full of useless facts about random things.

Lately I've been really into trying new things which has been pretty cool, even if I don't really like what I try. It's lead to some interesting and unique experiences that I'm proud to have accomplished and grown from.

I like going out for the night once in a while but I’m not into the club scene much anymore. I’ll still go out dancing with you but I prefer a small bar with a good atmosphere to hang out with friends and talk, play pool or darts, sing karaoke, or listen to a live band. I usually enjoy a nice relaxing evening at home cooking dinner, looking things up online, playing with my dog, reading, watching TV, etc…

What I’m doing with my life

Working, playing, relaxing, sleeping, and enjoying life.
I just started school again so come ~June 2011 I’ll have my Bachelor of Science, Nuclear Engineering Technology. I can't wait! But I'm only taking 1 or two classes at a time so I still have free time. The best part is that I don't even have to pay for it. Gotta love free education!

I spend a lot of time playing with my dog, Roxy. We love going to the dog park, a river, or for a run around the neighborhood. I bought snow shoes so we can hike the nearby trails through the winter. She doesn't seem to mind when it's -5F outside with a few feet of snow, she just wants to go out for her hikes.

I’m really good at

Learning new things, listening to people, teaching, playing with kids, building computers, researching random things online, sudoku, saying "please" and "thank you", making fun of friends, making fun of myself

The first things people usually notice about me

I don't know. Let me know if we meet.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books:
I'm reading the Mistborn trilogy right now (a fantasy book by Brandon Sanderson, the guy who's finishing up the Wheel of Time series) for entertainment and I just picked up "On the Genealogy of Morals" by Friedrich Nietzsche to satisfy my growing philosophical interests. Next on my list is "The Brothers Karamazov" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

Some of my favorites are: Call of the Wild, Watership Down, The Three Musketeers, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, The Age of Reason by Thomas Paine, The Wheel of Time series, older Michael Crichton books

Movies:
The Shawshank Redemption, The Commitments (the best movie nobody's ever seen), Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Long Kiss Goodnight (the best action movie most people haven't seen), The Princess Bride, Willow, The Goonies, The Abyss, 300, Pulp Fiction, Real Genius, The Right Stuff, Seven, Ghostbusters, Good Will Hunting, Mr. Holland's Opus, Gross Point Blank, V for Vendetta, 12 Angry Men, Clerks, Alien, Aliens, Aladdin, ET, Rudy, The Sandlot, Pixar movies, Unforgiven, True Lies, True Romance, Wayne's World, Chicago, The Endless Summer II, The Aristocrats, The Dark Knight, Planet Earth, Airplane, Spaceballs, Zombieland, Avatar

Music:
Rock, Classic rock, Blues, Classical. Tool, Led Zeppelin, Nine Inch Nails, The Who, The Beatles, AC/DC, Van Halen, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Metallica, U2, Alice in Chains, Queen, The Rolling Stones, CCR, White/Rob Zombie, Guns N' Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Offspring, Rage Against the Machine, Cream, Steve Miller Band, Rush, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Pink Floyd, INXS, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Pachelbel, Tchaikovsky, Mozart

Food: Mexican and Italian, a good steak, ice cream, chocolate. I mostly just cook for myself. When I do cook for others I usually get compliments that seem believable.

TV: Comedy Central - The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Futurama, South Park. Anything on the History, Discovery, Science, and National Geographic channels. BBC has some good shows too.

YouTube video's:
We Are Here: The Pale Blue Dot
"There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. It underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the only home we’ve ever known. The Pale Blue Dot."
- Carl Sagen (video by David Fu)
The World is Just Awesome - Discovery Channel

Quote:
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one's understanding without guidance from another. This immaturity is self-imposed when its cause lies not in lack of understanding, but in lack of resolve and courage to use it without guidance from another. Sapere Aude! [Dare to know!] Have courage to use your own understanding! That is the motto of enlightenment."
- Immanuel Kant

The six things I could never do without

Other than the standard family & friends:
1. something new to learn
2. good conversation
3. laughter
4. science
5. music
6. my dog
Okay, so I could probably live without these things but I wouldn't be nearly as happy.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Anything and everything, science, history, religion & atheism, people, politics, philosophy, friends, family, my personal and professional plans for the future.
Where should I go and what should I do this weekend if anywhere or anything?
Why and how _____ (fill in the blank)?
Why do people think and do the things that they do?
What will the LHC discover?
The Hubble Ultra Deep Field - The most amazing picture ever taken

On a typical Friday night I am

Filling out crap like this, relaxing at home reading or watching TV, thinking about the previous list, watching a movie, looking science things up on the internets, out with friends, playing pool, occasionally out drinking and maybe dancing or singing karaoke, fixing up my house, playing with my dog.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

- I'm an atheist and I'm a good person with morals and all. Really.
- I love Youtube. Not for most of the random crap that people upload but for the science, atheist, and free thinking communities.
- As soon as I get home I usually change into my pjs if it’s cold, or just my boxers if it’s warm (sweet visual, huh?). Ah, the joys of living alone.
- I hate hangers, but they're a necessary evil.
- No subject is taboo, I'll discuss anything without getting offended. I might disagree and argue my viewpoint but everything is fair game for a good discussion or debate.
- I don't really keep anything secret if asked. If you want to know anything "private," just ask.

You should message me if

- you managed to read this far
- I've intrigued you
- you think we'd get along well
- you want to talk
- you can teach me something new and interesting
- you like good conversation
- you want to go out and play pool
- you have something good to say
- you like science
- you're an intellectual girl, that's very sexy to me

I'd love to find the right person share the rest of my life with. I'd be happy to meet some good people. I’ve never played games when it comes to relationships (friends or romantic) and I’m not about to start; If you do then please look elsewhere. I’m looking for something real and meaningful. I’ve found that some shared interests and a compatible sense of humor are a must for a successful relationship, along with good communication and honesty. I'm looking for someone to take care of who will take care of me in return. I don’t expect a serious relationship from the first date, but am looking for a kindred spirit to develop a relationship with.

I prefer to meet in person after a short time rather than develop an extended email relationship. Better to find out sooner than later if we get along in person.
