I am human, occasionally curious, and not here often.

My Self-Summary

I keep a weblog at http://bannister.us/weblog which has way more words than I am going to put here. To me this site is just an excuse to look at pretty girls. :)

... to save time ...

Don't dance - probably a good thing for all concerned.

Allergic to cats. Grew up with a cat. At five adopted a half-grown stray that grew into big ornery tomcat. Not an option anymore. Friend warned about his bad-tempered adopted cat. Couple minutes later the cat is on it's back, getting roughed up and totally submissive. Yes, I like cats. Then spent the next hour sneezing.

Not interested in motorcycles - at least in suburbia. Had three friends in college who gave up motorcycles after close calls. My little brother was killed on a motorcycle. As to the local hangout for suburbanites with shiny motorcycles in weekend leather ... oh please.

Tattoos just don't do anything for me. Not my thing.

I have three kids, in varying stages of independence - youngest is 13.

Don't know a damn thing about dating. Socially adept and placing in the top 1% in your SATs (long ago) tend not go together - I am no exception.

At this point severely doubt I am going to sweep anyone off their feet. Will admit a fondness for old Cary Grant movies, but that is about as close as it gets.

Just fooling around here. Nothing serious.

What I’m doing with my life

Learning always. Plan to escape from southern California, but not settled on to where. Have the notion of building a house (rammed earth for thermal mass, and borrowing a page from the Green Mountain book for solar). Supporting my kids until not (or less) needed.

Trying in very small ways to make this planet a better place.

I’m really good at

Almost anything I set my mind to, and spend the needed time.

The first things people usually notice about me

Not a clue. :)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Favorites? Way too many books around here (not all yet read) - software, tools, history, philosophy, fiction. Movies vary - lots of science fiction, old Cary Grant and John Wayne, the Thomas Crown Affair, some odd bits (French?) in Red, White, Blue, and Amelie. Cooking is a minor hobby, favorite foods tend to be whatever I'm trying to figure out this month.

Favorite quote of the moment: "Money can't buy love, but it improves your bargaining position." Christopher Marlowe (who died in 1593)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How to build a small practical thermonuclear reactor (well, not a *lot* of time...). Where might be a better place to live. How to build a simple, practical, efficient, and esthetic house. What kind of airplane design might be worth building. How to push the HTML working group to a better result. How to build better web applications (and where).

Not much.

On a typical Friday night I am

Chasing down something of interest. Varies.

You should message me if

Haven't a clue. Best if you know how to type in mixed case.
