I enjoy intelligent conversations and going to places where I can gain something from the experience - like museums, theater, aquariums, archeological sites, etc. I sing in my car, dance and rock out to 80's & 90's rock, and go in garb to Renaissance faires. I am from outside Boston and Love my Boston RED SOX. I usually keep bubbles in my car for when I'm stuck in traffic. I'm as comfortable hiking and camping in the woods as I am in a crowded pool hall or the pits at a concert. I also enjoy deep sea fishing, sailing on tall ships, and scuba diving- ie: ocean addict. I've been writing poetry since I was four. A great day for me is waking up and feeling creative, going shopping and making up recipes as I go, coming home and spending hours in the kitchen cooking, and then in the evening serving a few of my favorite people. Don't let that fool you into thinking I'm the domestic housewife type, because I'm not. It's also probably good to know that I tend to be rather feisty and I deeply enjoy a good round of playful & witty banter now and again.

Marine Sciences grad student at the University of San Diego. I'll be getting my PhD when I finish my masters. I am a field research junkie. My current research is on vocal learning in killer whales and the effects of developmental stage and social affiliation. So, of course, I've been learning all about audio equipment, statistics and writing matlab programs (and reading lots of xkcd). I'll eventually be moving to BC as my research focuses on the killer whales (Orcinus orca) of the Pacific Northwest. You are welcome to ask about it, but beware, I get technical! (If you ask, be specific, otherwise I'm never quite sure where I need to begin)

Increasing my scuba certification in every way I can.

I am career oriented. I am also very ambitious. Whales and animal behaviors trump everything else in my life. Either you can handle that or you can't.

So to be fair - I keep my life pretty busy and full so if you're going to msg me, be patient, I'm the first to admit I'm horrible at sitting down and replying. I usually don't get around to actually checking this thing til I'm home and exhausted, which isn't the best time to sit and write.
That said, it may be a while, but as long as you send me something intelligent and not toooo snarky, you'll probably get a reply.
*Update 3/1/10: My Dear OKC'ers, my life has been insane for the past 6 months and shows no signs of slowing down (yay, grad school!). This means my days of replying to emails in a timely fashion have been temporarily suspended. I'm really only replying to emails were I feel a strong connection right now, and even that is going slower than I'd like. Apologies.*

Cooking! my recipes and conquests range from basic breakfast foods to sushi (I worked for 6mo as a sushi chef), old favorites, and pretty damn original. I cook by way of "this tastes right" or "I think this will work", also known as "some of this, some of that, and -oh what the hell- some of this too". For these reasons I seldom bake.

Also, writing, backrubs, working with animals / behavior modification, and increasing my number of useless talents such as orca & other whale, cat & owl impressions :)

(A) "Listening to Whales - What the Orcas have taught us" Alexandra Morton, "Fluke" Christopher Moore, "Silent Spring" Rachel Carson, Mercedes Lackey, Jane Goodall, Shakespeare, Tolkien, JK Rowling, E. A. Poe, + other poets. I'm trying to squeeze more reading into my diet, because I miss it terribly.
(B) Have you seen "Crash"? Because if you haven't, you need to. I enjoy a broad range of movies from forensic thrillers to fantasy, historical to action, and the occasional chick flick. I don't enjoy stupid comedy (read: anything with Will Ferrell). Some favorites include: LotR, Labyrinth,The Mummy, Elizabeth, Samurai Trilogy, Silence of the Lambs, Kill Bill, Batman, Finding Nemo, Fever Pitch, Love Actually… I particular enjoy work by Tim Burton and Akira Kurosawa.
(C) Evanescence, Hanson, Aerosmith, David Bowie, Matchbox Twenty, all of Maynards' projects (APC, Tool, Puscifer), Smashing Pumpkins, Michael Jackson (even when he wasn't popular), musicals, local bands (Traverser, Megan Slankard, On the Surface) etc.Rock is my favorite -almost every style- but I have pretty varied taste. No rap or country though. For example, for the past 3 yrs I've walked a mile barefoot with Hanson to promote AIDs research in Africa & TOMS shoes before their concerts, then in January(08) I was 10ft from the stage in a crazy pit at the Marilyn Manson show. I love both sides of it.
(D) Sushi!!!, My recipes, creme brulee, Maine lobster, Italian food, most other types of Asian cuisine, Eritrean, and almost anything from the ocean. Basically, I am a carnivore with omnivorous tendencies. I am a wuss when it comes to hot and spicy.
(E) Social Action is important to me. Whether its supporting the Audubon society,

1. A sense of drive, ambition, and above all, passion. 2. a huge stack of books and research papers 3. My friends, family, and whales (Don't judge me!) 4. A decent kitchen full of utensils, yummy ingredients, and very sharp knives 5. Pens and paper 6. Music - esp live 6.5 Hydrophones and Raven/Adobe Audition/SoundForge & other acoustic analysis software

Whales. I talk about them a lot as well. Also other sorts of animal behavior and communication. How I need to rein myself in and Not take on 18thousand additional projects in grad school... only like... 8 :). New recipes!

Out at a dance/rock club - sometimes with friends, sometimes not. I'm that chick who rocks out on her own and doesn't care as long as the rhythm is good, the creeps maintain their distance, and the DJ knows how to transition so I don't miss a beat.

* If it was offered, I would try whale.
* I would have a very hard time if I were to date a vegetarian, not because I disagree with your choices but because cooking for you might drive me to tears.
* It has been consistently shown that I become feistier at 2am.
* I bond to animals faster than people. Don't be offended if I like your pets more than you for the first few months.
