My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a writer, artist, deep thinker, teacher, and community organizer who wants to tangibly change the world. I'm passionate about it and spend a great deal of time mentoring students and community organizing in East Detroit and East Africa. I've devoted the rest of my life to tackling child poverty, hunger, and homelessness both at home and in the developing world. I'm currently working on projects in Kenya, Tanzania, the DRC, Burundi, and Southern India.

I've authored a book, acted professionally, lived abroad, and traveled extensively. I'm a thoughtful, reflective, genuine person and I'm looking for the same in friends to spend time with while in Ann Arborfinishing my Masters in Social Work this year.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm currently community organizing around poverty issues in East Detroit, teaching a couple of sections of intro psych at U of M, and working on a Masters in Social Work. Before moving to Ann Arbor, I taught World History and American Sign Language for 7 years in Tucson. I create art and write, but lately most of my attention is on developing community members and change agents to tackle global poverty and hunger. A great deal of my heart and energy has lately been devoted to a single orphanage in Tanzania where I hope to eventually spend 3 months out of the year.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Listening to people, engaging, teaching, writing creatively about big ideas, drawing, and catalyzing change in communities.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My height, intellect, eyes, and creativity.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I read extensively from fiction to history to personal narrative to sociology and political thought. I'm always working through 3 or 4 books at a time. I'm currently reading the autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr., The Next American Revolution by Grace Lee Boggs, and a number of others. I love NPR, particularly This American Life, All Things Considered, Radio Lab and Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me. Favorite films: Stranger Than Fiction, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc, Gattaca, Fight Club, and I Heart Huckabees. I used to be a stage actor, and love the theatre as well.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Books, art, coffee, people, time to write and reflect, and work that's meaningful.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Culture, poverty, hunger, race relations, social justice, identity and meaning, philosophy, changing systems and structures that oppress the less advantaged, and how get 26 orphans fully funded this year.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Downtown writing or out with a friend.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

When I was a kid, I thought my ears stuck out too much. My mom told me that I could train them back at night instead of getting the plastic surgery I had been saving my allowance for to get them pinned back. For quite some time I went to sleep with a gym sock tied around my ears and forehead. I don't think it did much more than leave funny, red lines across my forehead before school in the morning. My ears still stick out a bit, but I think I finally grew into them.
