American Psycho

Holy GOD.

First post in the journal and I get to waste it on Christian Bale's charmingly massive twat demeanor.

It is REALLY HARD not to compare this movie in every way to Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (and not just because I reread it this week); I mean right down to the walkman he was wearing. Shitty friends who do nothing worthwhile except talk behind his back? Yes. Complete impossibility of getting caught? Uh huh. Reluctance to kill the only girl who seemed worthwhile? Yep.

Is Bale even breaking out of his own personality during the entire movie? I have my doubts, though he's obviously overdoing it on purpose in his mask-wearing parts. He is a giant douche, who plays giant douches, and plays them well because method acting is his forte.

And that business card scene? My entire career at art school, right there.

Also, I'm pretty sure I would pay to see a solid hour of Bale bursting into tears. Best ever.

Surely you've seen The Machinist. You have to give it to the man, he's a great fucking "method" actor. And an asshole. Which makes him a perfect actor.

My roommate had The Machinist on hand, and after about an hour of watching it and wondering why it was so familiar, my mind imploded as I thought, "Oh. This is Fight Club. With no wit." Apart, y'know, from the explosions and hallucinated manifestations of introspection. I have to wonder if he lies awake at night and suspects that Patrick Bateman's vanity is really just his own. I hear if you punch your mother enough, you are defaulted to become the next Batman.

I'm so glad someone else made the connection between American Psycho and JtHM. I had the same response when he showed up to clean up the apartment and everything was mysteriously cleaned up already. Although, I do think the business card scene is one of the best things ever. "Let's see Paul Allen's card...." It's a shame about the Machinist having no real point and a phoned in twist. Atmospherically it was pretty creepy. But, damn that plot twist as unnecessary.

You can't blame the guy for punching his mother, how many mothers do you know that deserve NOT to be punched..? Zero, thats how many. This particualr mother is guilty of producing Christain Bale, which she definitely deserves to be beat on for. Who better to beat someone for making Christian Bale than Christian Bale ? I think its poetic, beautiful even. It restores in me some faith and hope in Karma and Balance .

Glad someone has said something I've thought. The times I've seen Machinist, American Psycho, Dark Knight or what have you, it's always been in the company of those who orgasm over Bale in the first place. Best part of AP was the axe to Jared Leto because that dick head needs one of those off camera. And Prestige was just absolute garbage. Even Bowie couldn't save that mess. Daniel Day-Lewis is all you need. Marlon Brando as well. My Left Foot is amazing. good post good show

Woah woah woah, don't get me wrong, Bale can be pure sex, he's just a giant asshole. I was fine with TDK and The Prestige (especially because of Bowie), and I have no problem with objectifying him. Granted, if I ever ran into him on the street, I would never stop running in the other direction. Unless he was comatose or his arms couldn't move.
