Books: I read a ton, but it's mostly stuff online. My
favorite series are The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and
Scott Pilgrim. I am currently reading LOTR: The Two Towers.
Most of the stuff I like is non-fiction, though.
Movies: My two top favorites are WALL-E and
The Truman Show. I love Pixar films, Alfred Hitchcock films
like Vertigo, Psycho, North by Northwest, Rope, Dial M for Murder,
and a few other films.
TV: I don't actively watch a lot of TV, but I love
Firefly and Mystery Science Theater 3000.
As far as webshows, I watch Red vs. Blue and other Rooster
Teeth shows like the RT Podcast livestream, JonTron Show, Game
Grumps, The Angry Video Game Nerd, Continue?, and other YouTube
channels. I watch a couple of speedrunners like Siglemic (Mario 64
speedrun world record holder) and Trihex (speedruns Super Mario
World 2: Yoshi's Island). I like to watch Let's Plays as well. I
recently fell in love with Bravest Warriors and Bee and
PuppyCat on Cartoon Hangover.
Music: My goto bands are Pink Floyd and
U2, but I also like to listen to New Order, Queen, The
Beatles, The Postal Service, They Might Be Giants, Death Cab for
Cutie, Coldplay, Barenaked Ladies, Journey, Led Zeppelin, R.E.M.,
Simon and Garfunkel, Rush, Styx, and others. I have a decent sized
music library and 1100 favorite songs on regular rotation. My
favorite songs are Bad by U2, Wot's . . . Uh The Deal by Pink
Floyd, Run Wild by New Order, The Rain Song and Thank You by Led
Zeppelin, and Prime Mover by Rush. Most of the songs on this
playlist I know the lyrics and structure by heart.
The way I get into new music is by methodically going album by
album for a band until I'm familiar with most or all of their work
and history. The central genre in my taste is rock, but I like to
push slowly into other genres. How I determine what I like and
don't like is largely a nebulous process, so I sometimes end up
liking songs in genres that I don't normally like and vice versa. I
don't care too much for Hip-hop, rap, country, and heavy metal, but
my tastes are constantly evolving.
I really like the small nuances of instruments, lyrics, meaning,
history, references, so I will often geek about songs, albums, and
bands. It may be sappy, but I think there's nothing much more
romantic than listening to a great album and talking about it with
Food: I'm somewhat picky, but I'm certain I could
find something I could eat on any restaurant's menu. I have a hard
time breaking out of my comfort zone when it comes to food, so I
often rotate ordering the same two or three entrées each time I eat
there. I also prefer the taste of diet drinks to regular drinks,
with Coke Zero being my soda of choice; I'm just weird like
Games: I grew up with a Sega Genesis and Sonic the
Hedgehog, so Sonic 3 & Knuckles is probably my favorite
game of all time (some of the best game music too). As far as other
classic games go, I love Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World 2:
Yoshi's Island, among a few others. Favorite arcade titles include
Galaga, Donkey Kong, Ms. Pac-Man, and Xevious. Favorite N64 games
include Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Super Smash Bros. I fell
in love with the Halo series sometime in 2002 and got Xbox Live in
2003. I also like the Mass Effect trilogy, the Uncharted trilogy,
the Half-Life series, Portal 1 and 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Fallout 3 and
New Vegas, TES: Oblivion and Skyrim, StarCraft 2, Pokémon, BioShock
Infinite, and Minecraft. I've been playing a lot of an
indie-spaceflight simulator called Kerbal Space Program
I play a handful of non-video games like Monopoly, Risk, and
D&D (which I'm still a noob at).
