Moved to the D.C. area from the Pacific Northwest last year, and I'm still hopelessly confused by crosswalk signals, parking meters, tall buildings, bus schedules, homelessness, the rat race, firetrucks, and the goddamned Beltway. I also find the lack of Mexican restaurants depressing.

I'm a writer. And by writer I mean my emotional and intellectual goals are to produce literature. I've recently graduated, got some poetry published as an undergrad, and am well aware I will most likely never make a living off of my writing. So I'm slinging coffee and blogging for a magazine and figuring out what comes next.

Also, I just started freelancing travel articles for a state I have never visited. Oh well. Finally earning some peanuts!

Books: My bookshelf is overloaded with poetry at the moment, mostly by wonderful, not-tragically-dead poets; Melissa Kwasny, Yusef Komunyakaa, Matthew Dickman, Janet Frame, Beckian Fritz Goldberg Lynne Burris Butler, Dorianne Laux, Maya Zeller, Joseph Millar, Jonathan Johnson, and Christopher Howell.

I adore Nabokov.

And Bruno Schulz is the greatest author you've never read. Or reread. Seriously, he good.

Someone keeps leaving literary journals in the book exchange at work. Whoever this person is, I love them.

Movies: Anything that has a some heart and wasn't engineered to be sold to the lowest common denominator.

Music: See Movies.

Reading. I usually work Saturdays.

I will occasionally shave my face just to remind myself that I look, clean shaven, like a beige smudge with eye brows stuck on it.

But in all honesty, I've never actually had sex. True story.

you need a friend. Mine are all 3,000 miles away, so let's find a haunt and make it our bitch.

Or you noticed I deflect personal questions with humor to garner gratification from others without having to reveal anything meaningful about myself or make myself vulnerable.
