First thing that you should know about me is that I'm not perfect. If that's what you're looking for then please move along. Second thing is that I'm a lifelong UGA fan so if you're a Florida fan then please hit the "Back" button on your browser as we would be doomed from the start.
Still there? Alright. What should you know about me? Well, I like to talk. I don't mean that I like to talk about how I'm feeling or what I'm thinking (not to say that I don't do those things occasionally). What I mean is that I like to talk about specific topics such as politics, theology, philosophy, ethics, current events. I like to learn and these are all areas that I'm interested in learning about. I'd like to add you to that list.
I like to read...I mean really read. You and most of the world would probably be bored to tears by what I read (e.g., creeds, confessions, systematic theologies, Greek manuscripts, etc.). I say that to illustrate two things: (1) I am dedicated, and (2) I am consistent. I got into this habit in seminary and it's stuck with me. I'd like to be dedicated and consistent with you.
I mentioned above that I like to learn. Well, an extension of that is that I very much like to teach as well. I enjoy taking a concept like the hypostatic union and making it "accessible" to people who haven't been exposed to it for one reason or another. What is the hypostatic union? It's not first date material so you'll have to stick around to find out. Or you could Google it. Either way.
I'm a trained logician so I can come off as "dry" at times but this isn't a personality trait, it's an outcropping of my listening skills. I hear what people say and automatically put it through a series of tests. Sometimes this leads to me probing for more information in a systematic way out of curiosity for the truth. Not because I want to be a jerk. I just want to make sure not only that I know what the speaker believes but that the speaker knows what they believe and why. I like root causes and I'm not swayed by slogans or the temperament of a speaker.
What else? Hmmm...oh yeah. Writing. Big into writing. Another consequence of staying in school too long. I've kept a blog (seriously, who doesn't nowadays) for the past eight years and I write on a regular basis.
Speaking of the Lord, I should probably mention I'm a Christian. Not a Joel Osteen "God wants you to have your best life now" kind of Christian either (the only way you're gonna have your best life now is if you're going to hell). I take Scripture seriously and apply its teachings to all parts of my life. This includes my confronting of false beliefs, my defense (apologetic) of the faith, and my firm stance on issues. I do all of this with the most love and grace and compassion that I can muster.
With that said, I'll admit that I'm a hopeless romantic. I quote lines from movies and songs all the time. I like the "lovey dovey" stuff. I like to cuddle (cute, right?). I like going out but I'm fine with staying in.
There's more to me but if I tell you everything now what are we gonna talk about when we meet?
Still there? If you've made it this far then I salute you. You are a trooper. Keep on truckin'. You get an "A" for effort. (Insert other congratulatory cliches here.)
