My self-summary
Welcome! This is the part where I distill my personality into a few paragraphs with uncanny accuracy.

I am a doer who values downtime. That means I find a lot of satisfaction in everything form work to cooking to fixing my car, but I tend to relax with activities that have no long-term benefit whatsoever. Assembling pieces into solutions is a lot of fun for me, whether it's sections of code coming together to make a program or parts and tools fixing my bike. Then I mess around on Reddit.

... but time spent with a good friend (or a new friend!) is always the highlight of my day, and I spend a lot of my free time finding new music, movies, and books. Human connection and art give life meaning. Hence my profile on this site!

I try, and often fail, to balance appreciation for what I have and ambition to improve myself, which is the best method I have of improving the world. I work hard to improve my life, but I try to keep in mind that eating food and sleeping indoors means I have better fortune than many, many people.

I am completely obsessed with the Alot. I have strong minimalist tendencies. I once cold-called a man and sold him a roof.
What I’m doing with my life
1. Inveigling computers.
2. Percussory maintenance of same.
3. Trying to figure out if I should add more things.
I’m really good at
Meeting people. I've made a couple of good friends at bus stops.
The first things people usually notice about me
In Japan, everyone noticed that I'm tall.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
If you are into books and you haven't read David Mitchell, get Cloud Atlas or The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet immediately. The Stranger by Camus is also worth your time. I seem to be one of the few people who read Infinite Jest in its entirety and thought it was ok, not great or terrible. I judge books (fiction and nonfiction) by their ability to alter my habits of thought.

Favorite movie depends on the day. Some recent highlights include Dredd, Forks Over Knives, and Seven Samurai. I love the Big Lebowski too.

Some recent music favorites: Air, Caravan Palace, and Christopher Tin. Carbon Leaf has been on my MP3 player for years without interruption. I like listening to trance or chillout music when I work. I am shamelessly addicted to this song.

Two more things
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The deplorable reality is that I spend a solid majority of my time either at work or thinking about work. I'm working on that. :) I also enjoy learning pretty much anything, from metaphysics to sewing.
On a typical Friday night I am
I always get dinner with friends, and when I don't have work the next day I go out afterwards.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm really good at counting parentheses to make sure they're all closed (and yes, it bothers me when they aren't).
