I am overanalytical, generous, and calm.

My Self-Summary

I like silence over loud, and country over city. I think of others, without stopping to find something for me. I don't lie when I answer the question "How are you?"

Some people think I'm witty, some shy, some think I'm gruff, some say energetic, and some think I'm sad. They're all right. I go through moods, and don't value one kind over another, because passion is more important than happiness. It makes for poetry, at least.

I'm unabashedly French, but half as a gag. I write without effort, and speak with it -- my letters sing, my spoken words slouch. I force myself to do things I'm bad at.

I love making -- words on a page should be written with care and thin lines, even beyond the struggle to choose them. Food on a plate should lay in a way that shows each layer of taste to the eyes. I love cleaning the house simply because afterwards, the room invites you in, wants you to sit and stretch and fill the space.

I can tolerate stupidity from people who can't be otherwise, but I don't let others get away with crap. I demand and support at the same time. I don't inspire comfort all the time, maybe I challenge others too much. I hope it's worth the time anyway. But I don't want to be certain -- it's self doubt that keeps us striving.

I don't like adjectives.

What I’m doing with my life

Paycheck time is a manager of unspeakable acts of computing. it's ok. but only a job not a career.

I also spend a lot of time teaching high school kids in speech and debate.

also also I'm helping found an online educational software company.

in related news, i'm very busy and need a vacation.

I’m really good at

writing. watching people, listening to them, knowing when it's ok to say "you're being an ass" and when not to. looking at groups and systems of people and finding where the problems lay. cooking. backrubs.

The first things people usually notice about me

my height--i'm very tall.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

a) one hundred years of solitude. the great gatsby. most faulkner. tocqueville's democracy in america (so I'm a dork, shoot me), stuff by amartya sen, corelli's mandolin, my book of vermeer's paintings, and gosh many others.

b) i don't see movies often enough to comment.

c) brahms mahler & dvorak, beethoven and pals. oh, U2 rocks it out sometimes too.

d) french is my bread and butter (pain et beurre, whatever..) but i'll eat many different cuisines when
given the chance. not much I don't like.

The six things I could never do without

cheese, paper and pen, trees, beaches, memory

On a typical Friday night I am

I feel like a loser, but sleeping early. The week wipes me out, I like to spend quiet Fridays. I'm not a huge bar-club loud speakers kind of guy; I prefer the one-on-one where I can understand and be understood.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

that I think this is a stupid question.

You should message me if

You can teach me something, or create something I wish I could have done, or simply want to sit on a hill at night and read aloud stories written in the stars.
