I have a lot of interests, but what should matter to you is that I like talking about the philosophical ideas behind things, and with other people, I like to do outdoor stuff in nature(hiking, climbing,mountain+road biking, rowing), or to do things that provoke interesting conversation.

I also enjoy cooking when I'm in the right mood. Actually, it usually puts me in the right mood once I start, but I often forget that.

For the last 8 years, I developed software for simulating semiconductors. Now I'm working on figuring out what to do next. I think I might like to do data mining of social media next or work in some capacity that makes a positive difference in the world. There is a good chance I'll be going back to school for a PhD to ultimate pursue a teaching position.

No job has given me a big enough playground for all my interests, so I spend a fair amount of time learning and experimenting with things on my own. To this end, I started and organize a meetup group for an AI programming language.

I'm lucky to be part of a really great Tai Chi club. The members are down to earth and the most experienced students have an incredible grace and precision about them which is inspiring.

I also travel internationally from time to time when specific reasons or opportunities arise. I want to go to South America, Ireland, China, and back to Australia and Europe. I love the language immersion and the new perspective on life that comes from traveling.

In November of 2011 I began my latest pursuit, learning to play the cello.

Recently: What is simultaneously good for individuals and the welfare of humanity: Things like walking/biking instead of driving, socializing for entertainment instead of shopping. I think a lot of unsustainable things are like drug abuse -- people (myself included) are drawn toward them but they don't really make us better. Psychology apparently says the best way to help people with a drug problem is to first fill the hole they are self-medicating or else they'll never be willing or able to give up the drug. Seems like a good model for sustainability.
