My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I have a lot of interests, but what should matter to you is that I like talking about the philosophical ideas behind things, and with other people, I like to do outdoor stuff in nature(hiking, climbing,mountain+road biking, rowing), or to do things that provoke interesting conversation.

I also enjoy cooking when I'm in the right mood. Actually, it usually puts me in the right mood once I start, but I often forget that.

I am bright, curious, and authentic
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
For 8 years, I developed software for simulating semiconductors and completed a masters degree focused on natural language processing (i.e. analyzing written and spoken english with computers). Now I'm working on a PhD in bioinformatics (analyzing DNA with computers).

No job has given me a big enough playground for all my interests, so I spend a fair amount of time learning and experimenting with things on my own. To this end, I started and organize a meetup group for an AI programming language.

I also travel internationally from time to time when specific reasons or opportunities arise. I want to go to South America, Ireland, China, and back to Australia and Europe. I love the language immersion and the new perspective on life that comes from traveling.

In November of 2011 I began my latest pursuit, learning to play the cello.

Also, I'm looking for a really great companion obviously :).
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
* teaching
* being patient with people
* picking up sports based on kinesthenetic sense and balance (mountain biking, climbing, riding boards of various kinds(snowboarding, surfing, sandboarding, rowing)
* getting interested in new things just long enough to understand and daydream about them, but not necessarily implement them (I'd make a good architect, inventor, or absent minded professor)
* holding my breath for a long time. I can make it all the way through Eisenhower tunnel when traffic is normal.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My freckles probably. I've been told I have nice legs too.

I also have clean, well maintained dreadlocks (but I'm not a pothead, I just like the way they look)

Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Great question. I spend a lot of time thinking about stuff in general.

I think about the patterns in life and how it all works
the meaning of words
what makes people thrive
Recently: What is simultaneously good for individuals and the welfare of humanity: Things like walking/biking instead of driving, socializing for entertainment instead of shopping. I think a lot of unsustainable things are like drug abuse -- people (myself included) are drawn toward them but they don't really make us better. Psychology apparently says the best way to help people with a drug problem is to first fill the hole they are self-medicating or else they'll never be willing or able to give up the drug. Seems like a good model for sustainability.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
* excited to begin a weekend long project which I'll probably table for something else that captures my interest
* relaxing at home
* hanging out with friends
* getting ready for an outing of some kind on Saturday
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Sometimes I overstuff the washing machine.
