My self-summary
I was uncool before it was cool.

I'm a Yankee (NYC originally, followed by LI, and a pleasant sojourn in Boston, in case any of you folks are from around there) who's just moved to the Southeast and is exploring it for the first time.

I know a little about everything and a lot about a few things.

I'm as Northern as a bagel dunked in clam chowder. (I'm an exile from an extinct group, the middle-class Manhattanite.) I'm a lousy driver, can name five varieties of mushroom, and am convinced that professional sports are an expression of American anti-intellectualism.

Oh, and I'm really humble.
What I’m doing with my life
I sit in a dark room and answer doctors' questions.
I’m really good at
Making people laugh.
Doing karaoke stone cold sober. (You don't have to.)
Giving my team extra points in quiz bowl.
Coming up with silly theories to explain anything.
Playing amateur sociologist/political scientist.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Of Mice and Men, 1984, All Quiet on the Western Front, We, Animal Dreams, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Hunger Games, Clark Ashton Smith, Lovecraft (I sympathize quite a bit with the end of 'The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath'), Desclos, quite a bit of nonfiction...and way too many of those yellow-spined Daw paperbacks.

And I can do Hamlet's soliloquy from memory. It's even funnier when you put it into the voice recognition system.

Movies: Godfather, The Usual Suspects, Dr. Strangelove, Memento (and I can tell you what part of his brain got damaged!), Citizen Kane, The Matrix, The Departed, anything with moloko in it, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Metropolis, The Prestige, Cool Hand Luke, Annie Hall, Sleeper, V for Vendetta, The Princess Bride, Manhattan Murder Mystery, 12 Monkeys, Donnie Darko, Secretary, Dark Knight, Casablanca, Der Untergang

Music: Johnny Cash, New Order, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Fleetwood Mac, Rammstein, Die Toten Hosen, Jimmy Buffett, OOMPH!, Gevolt, WA Yankovic, Scissor Sisters, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Billy Joel, Lou Reed, Depeche Mode, MC Frontalot, Lady Gaga, NWA, John Cage's 4'33", the soundtrack to 'Cabaret', K.231/382c. (Yes, all of the above.) Also any unusual combo, like country-rap.

Food: Italian (I love pasta), Chinese (chicken with cashew nuts!), Vietnamese (can't beat the pho!). Indian given sufficient water, pulled pork. I am gradually developing a taste for craft beer.
The six things I could never do without
Camera to take pictures of cheesy stuff with
House keys
Credit card to deal with the unforeseen
Cellphone to arrange unforeseen rendezvous
The notorious beeper

I spend a lot of time thinking about
life, the universe, and everything.
what Shakespeare would be doing now if he were alive.
if cosplayers were the people who acted in passion plays and mummer's plays in the Middle Ages.
whether I should try to learn a new language and, if so, French or German.
How OkC really ought to have more than 2 gender options. Come on, y'all, you're supposed to be a progressive site!
On a typical Friday night I am
You mean if I'm not on call? At a movie, out with friends at a nice restaurant, or checking out a local band.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm not smart enough to write a good profile, so I'm leaving this part blank.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 21–46
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
-you're smart, quirky, fun to be with, and can explain the importance of the Oxford comma to me.
-your intelligence exceeds your charisma. Big horn-rims a plus.
-you caught any of the inside jokes or purposeful redundancies.
-you own more books than shoes. Extra points for quoting this as a ratio. (If the result is undefined or not a number...)
-you want to go out to a nice restaurant on Superbowl Sunday. (I tried this in Arizona and found all the restaurants were showing the game!)
-you've ever been banned from Fargo.
-you want someone to do karaoke with you.
-you can explain why the Spanish flag on the 'visit Uruguay' website looks funny. ;)
