My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a PhD student from Glasgow. I'm never happier than when reading, gaming or watching a good tv show. I'm partial to science fiction films, Indian food and New York City.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm writing up my PhD in Computer Science at the University of Glasgow. However, I spent the summer in Finland working for Microsoft. I'll be back in Glasgow on August 4th.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
video games, math, and making myself look like a dork.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm really not sure. Beard or glasses maybe?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Picking my favourite books is too hard, so I'll list favourite authors instead. They include: Patrick Rothfuss, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Neal Stephenson, Brandon Sanderson, Cory Doctorow, Stephen King (Dark Tower, mostly), Brian K Vaughan, Mark Millar, Joss Whedon (the comics count, yeah?), Robert Jordan, Wil Wheaton, Jim Butcher, and Christopher Brookmyre. Science fiction and fantasy stuff for the most part.

My five favourite movies are, in no particular order, Lost in Translation, High Fidelity, Serenity, Blade Runner and Garden State.

I'm something of a tv addict. Shows I like include The West Wing, The Wire, Battlestar Galactica, Veronica Mars, the various Stargates, Star Trek (TOS, TNG and DS9), Person of Interest, Chuck, Top Gear, How I Met Your Mother, Leverage, Supernatural, Six Feet Under, Doctor Who, Lost, Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, Dr Horrible, The Big Bang Theory, Californication, Farscape, Dexter, Friday Night Lights, House, Mad Men, Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Mentalist, and Wonderfalls. So, quite a lot then.

My music taste is all over the place- my iTunes has everything from Biffy Clyro to David Guetta. According to LastFM, my five most listened to artists are Springsteen, Biffy, Death Cab for Cutie, Frightened Rabbit and Jonathan Coulton. My favourite album ever is Ghosts and Heights by Crash My Model Car.

Food-wise, it's hard to beat good Indian food. I also enjoy pizza, good burgers, and sushi.

I've just realised that this profile mentions gaming for about two sentences, which doesn't seem right given how important games in general are to me. My favourite games include Valve's entire back catalogue, Morrowind, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Civilization, Zelda, Pokemon, Final Fantasy and many more besides. I used to play World of Warcraft a lot, but I've been clean for a couple of years now.

I'm also fairly into tabletop gaming. Current favourites are Dominion, Lords of Waterdeep, and Cards Against Humanity.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Books, my close friends, the internet, The West Wing, plenty of sleep, and caffeine.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
My PhD, mostly. Need to finish that so I can start my postdoc job in Finland!
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
With friends, playing board games, in a bar or at the movies.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I started growing out my facial hair because I used to have long hair and was regularly mistaken for a girl while at work.

These days it's just visual shorthand for me being a computing scientist.
