My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a researcher in computer science, originally from Scotland. I love cycling and exploring the city, but I also enjoy quiet nights reading, gaming or watching a good tv show. I'm partial to science fiction films, Indian food and New York City.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working at Aalto University for a couple of years. I just about made it through my first Finnish winter (not as bad as advertised!) and I'm looking forward to the summer.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
video games, math, and making myself look like a dork.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm really not sure. Beard or glasses maybe?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Picking my favourite books is too hard, so I'll list favourite authors instead. They include: Patrick Rothfuss, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Neal Stephenson, Brandon Sanderson, Cory Doctorow, Stephen King (Dark Tower, mostly), Brian K Vaughan, Mark Millar, Joss Whedon (the comics count, yeah?), Robert Jordan, Wil Wheaton, Jim Butcher, and Christopher Brookmyre. Science fiction and fantasy stuff for the most part. Right now I'm in love with Steven Erikson's books.

My five favourite movies are, in no particular order, Lost in Translation, High Fidelity, Serenity, Blade Runner and Garden State.

I'm something of a tv addict. Shows I like include The West Wing, The Wire, Battlestar Galactica, Veronica Mars, the various Stargates, Star Trek (TOS, TNG and DS9), Person of Interest, Chuck, Top Gear, How I Met Your Mother, Leverage, Supernatural, Six Feet Under, Doctor Who, Lost, Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, Dr Horrible, The Big Bang Theory, Californication, Farscape, Dexter, Friday Night Lights, House, Mad Men, Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Mentalist, and Wonderfalls. Netflix is a dangerous place.

My music taste is all over the place- everything from Biffy Clyro to Kendrick Lamar. According to LastFM, my five most listened to artists are Springsteen, Biffy, Death Cab for Cutie, Frightened Rabbit and Jonathan Coulton. My favourite album ever is Ghosts and Heights by Crash My Model Car.

Food-wise, it's hard to beat good Indian food. I also enjoy pizza, good burgers, and sushi.

I also like video games a lot, though I don't get to play as many as I'd like these days. My favourite games include Valve's entire back catalogue, Morrowind, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Civilization, Zelda, and many more besides. I used to play World of Warcraft a lot, but I've been clean for a few years now.

I'm also a fan of board games, but haven't found a regular group of people to play with here in Finland. Definitely message me if you're into that. Just no Monopoly please...
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Books, my close friends, the internet, The West Wing, plenty of sleep, and caffeine.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
My research, my friends and where to get good brunch in Helsinki. If you've got recommendations, let me know!

I've also been trying to learn Finnish lately, which is hurting my brain.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Back home I'd be with friends, playing board games, in a bar or at the movies. In Finland, it's mostly the same but with less board games.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I started growing out my facial hair because I used to have long hair and was regularly mistaken for a girl while at work.

These days it's just visual shorthand for me being a computing scientist.
