My self-summary
Not quite sure yet what I want to write here. For now, here's a list of stuff I enjoy: chess&board games, rock-climbing, books&poetry, AI research, languages, photography, playing the guitar (rather poorly), living in different places and meditation.
What I’m doing with my life
Finished my degrees, for the moment, and am happy to be taking it easy this summer... should be a good one, with lots of reading on the beach.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I really love both books and movies, but I don't listen to much music these days.

In literature, I really like 19th/eartly 20th century Russian lit and early 20th century Japanese lit. In general, I am pretty well read. My favourite poets are Rilke, Auden and Mandelstam.

In the world of movies, I prefer the classics or new foreign movies. My "top ten" for the last couple of years could include films like "Mother","Tulpan","Moon","Lust, Caution", "You will meet a tall dark stranger" and a few others that I can't think of right now. Reaching a tad further back, I love "The Return" (2003), "Lost in Translation", "L'Avventura", "Rhapsody in August", etc etc etc. I also like 80s Hollywood - like Alien, T2 and Indiana Jones.

In music, I prefer those artists who can write, usually people in the bard genre... in English, this includes individuals like Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen and Lhasa de Sela... I also like many different songs by many different classical composers, though I can't say that I've ever managed to muster the musical stamina to really get into just one of them. Those aside, I can't remember the last time I managed to maintain interest in an artist who did not have lyrical content which I found to be of value.
The six things I could never do without
- quiet morning time
- green tea
- my optometric apparatus
- something to be very interested in at a given moment
the rest has proven to be expendable, often in a surprising "good riddance" kind of way... that said, there have been multi-year periods in my life when I was never without:
- a camera
- a notepad
I spend a lot of time thinking about
...it varies. Lately, its been a lot of artificial-intelligence related stuff, seeing as that's what I'm into in comp. sci. If I am traveling, I try to make it something deep and reflection-oriented. If I am stressed, then its probably going to be stupid negative stuff, which is why stress sucks. ... but I am happiest when I am have the calm to not think that much but rather enjoy the little details of life around me.
On a typical Friday night I am
Doing school stuff or maybe socializing, but honestly, the latter is less likely... either way, I probably haven't noticed that its Friday and that that's supposed to make it special.
