My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Born and raised in the Midwest under grey skies next to cornfields, hayfields, heavy horses, long beards, women with long dresses and bonnets. Periodically escaped to Montana played cowboy, fisherman and practiced beef carnivory and drank whole milk. My youth was spent in and out of canoes, lakes, haymows to on and off tractors and horses, endless chores, farm or veterinary related activities. Decided the country boy needed to experience more cultural diversity and third world perspectives. Traveled to Eastern/Western Europe and East Africa some school, solo and safari. Returned to U.S. for college. S.W.Colorado and the Colorado Plateau to satisfy my wondering proclivities. Delighted in lots of the following: wild rivers, wilderness, snow, sunshine, hot springs, archeological sites, red rocks, flora, fauna, and ethnic diversity, good friends and teachers. Took lots of time to ski (downhill and cross country),snowshoe, white water rafting, hike,go running, backpacking, snow camping, ride my horses, build a log cabin, study Behavioral Ecology/Comparative Psychology and visit Santa Fe (Mecca) from the hinterlands. Finally the lure of Alaska tugged my heart away from the red rock country to work on the S.W.Alaska Peninsula and South-Central Alaska. I worked for the Feds as a Wildlife and Plants Technician followed by work in fisheries located in Prince William Sound. Later I spent time in the Washington's Cascades chasing critters for the Forest Service in the name of science. Recent History..Worked in the marine industry for sixteen years. Near Past History... I have been legally separated from my wife for over three years and are in the mediation and finalization process of divorce .We share custody 50/50 amicably. We have two wonderfully active sons aged 11 and 15 years old.
I have a multitude of interests: Geopolitics,Indigenous Cultures and Arts,Cultural Ecology,Agroecology/Organic Food Production,Behavioral Ecology,Conservation of Flora and Fauna,Wilderness,National Parks and Refuges, and Fragmented Habitats. I am interested in art, museums, and music from many areas of the globe. My political affinities tend towards the Scandanavian models of societies and values. I derive pleasure listening or reading from the following:BBC, Orion, High Country News, CBC, PRI, NPR, NYT, Alltopscience, National Native News, Democracy Now and other alternative outliers.
I do not require big boy toys, loud noise, or eye candy for happiness. I am a proud father, low maintenance, appreciate the beauty of form/function in biological diversity, the arts, French culture, importance of travel, dry humor, Hoo Doos, human behavior, horses, exercise , European Soccer, birding, hiking. I never get bored... watching the moon rise, alpine meadows, ocean sunsets, alpenglow, a decent bed of coals, low tide, genuine and mutual respect of other forms of life .... communication... in silence ..
friendships, joie de vivre, observing or listening to animals and feeling a sense... of our place in time, history and space.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Reading and examining life, raising two vibrant sons, feeling extremely lucky for my shift and health on earth.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Wrangling young boys, cats, just so so with chickens, observing feral behaviors, reading maps, navigating, not getting lost, chasing lost signals, reading field keys, recognizing archeological debris, making cheese cake, reading between the lines without my glasses, seeing the forest for the trees and any mushrooms along the trail, riding horses beyond the gates, cleaning up my own messes.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Relatively shy in large gatherings, blue eyes .. subject to selective wondering, feet reach the ground rather quickly, hair's intact..presently not subject to retrograde migration, old classmate once remarked..rather Cro-Magnon...Dx prefrontal skull still tying up loose ends, obviously without appropriate hunting skills and tools, but teeth intact, subject to tanning, tattoos and metallic adornments lacking! Appears all vital signs normal, healthy eating habits and manners with abandon, no extra tonnage, high mileage on legs, P2-3 moderately fused, does not appear to assist in propulsion. Prognosis: fit for appropriate dispersal, short shelf life, Caution! Handle with care.
