My self-summary
Oh hai! I'm Gary... What can I say, I'm just this guy, you know?

Pretty much the only sport I follow is soccer (futbol), I'm a big supporter (and season ticket holder) of the Columbus Crew... GO CREW! Hockey is a distant second, but it can be fun to watch too... I guess I just like exciting sports that have a lot of fan input and anticipation, and being one of the crazies who likes to stand and chant and sing for 90 minutes at a soccer match and know that the team is actually energized because of our chanting, well, it's a magical feeling.

Music is one of the driving forces in my life - I always feel like I need to have something on. I play guitar and bass, I love to listen to music, I love to see shows... I guess to me, and I know it's cliche, but I just feel like life is better with an awesome soundtrack. I love to make music I like to listen to, and if other people like it or it moves them, well it's just frakking amazing.

Going to movies and going out to eat are some of my favorite past-times, and I also enjoy going on trips... because nature just speaks to me, especially the wooded variety. I was a Boy Scout growing up, and so the woods have always felt comforting, and peaceful to me. Although my mobility has decreased quite a bit when it comes to walking after a failed foot surgery in 2013 that was supposed to increase my mobility, grr.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator - ENFP

Also, OKC seems to think I am bad-mannered. Screw you, OKC. ;)
What I’m doing with my life
I work in medical billing. I enjoy feeling like I am an integral part of a team that ensures people get the care that they need.

I'm also searching to find the right creative situation to be a part of musically, because that is something that I find very fulfilling in life. I just love that rush of hearing a finished song, or getting up on stage to play live.
I’m really good at
Being silly, but also being serious whenever a situation calls for it. Making other people laugh and smile. I have a knack for composing songs or augmenting other people's songs with just the right part to take it to the next level. And rambling. I have mad rambling skills ;-)
The first things people usually notice about me
Some people notice my glasses. Yeah, I'm geeky, get over it. Sometimes my hair...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books and authors I have cherished in the past and continue to read currently include horror stuff like Anne Rice, Clive Barker... SciFi/Fantasy stuff... like Ender's Game, Piers Anthony (NOT XANTH, mainly the Incarnations of Immortality series, which rules), etc... Also just read Ready Player One which was most excellent! I also read a lot of musical biographies, cause I like to know more about artists I love. I also fancy anecdotal books about life, and observations thereof... essentially, narrative non-fiction, like Chuck Klosterman. Just got the books of Wil Wheaton and I really need to get to reading them now!

Movies I love include darker/kitchy films like Pump Up the Volume, American Beauty and Heathers... More Sci-Fi/Fantasy like The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and also comedic stuff with Seth Rogen and even some indie-romances like 500 Days of Summer. Kevin Smith is also a frakking genius. There are plenty more that I love, but not enough time nor space...

Music is, by far, my favorite media... My first real love was classic 80's alternative / post-punk bands like the cure, siouxsie and the banshees, joy division, depeche mode, the smiths, and cocteau twins.. which then led me into shoegazer stuff like lush, my bloody valentine, ride which really floats my boat as well. Along the way I also listened to alternapop like R.E.M, U2. Lest you think I dwell in 1985-1992 permanently, there is some modern stuff I like as well like metric, mew, Asobi Seksu, cutcopy and M83, as well as discovering some excellent bluegrass stuff like Nickel Creek (who I found through Toad the Wet Sprocket), and Punch Brothers.

Mainly, I've been listening to podcasts quite a bit recently, lots of Nerdist and smodcast... and Your Mom's House too!

Food, well, I love it. Most of it. I dislike seafood.
I love semi-ethnic stuff like Italian, Mexican, and Chinese.

Shows - True Blood, Impractical Jokers, The Big Bang Theory, @midnight, Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy, Doctor Who... I love AMC too... Mad Men, The Walking Dead, Comic Book Men.
Departed but still loved: Battlestar Galactica and Dead Like Me
The six things I could never do without
Music and musical instruments, they are lifeblood for my soul...
friends and family for support and constant love in life
a laptop with internet access and Wikipedia so I can feed my need for knowledge...
my heart, which lets me love and care
my mind, which lets me discern and reason (at times lol)
Diet Dr Pepper Cherry, well, because it frakking rules.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The world, my place in it, and how we can improve our lives both as individuals, and as a whole in society. Some thoughts are radical ideas, some tame & lame cliches, but we are a product of our environment!
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually just chilling out. Sometimes I'll hang out with friends, sometimes I'll stay at home and do my own thing, sometimes I will go out and see a band or go to a club... it all varies from week-to-week.

I do like to play certain video games (COUGH MMOs) and am very interested in getting into table-top gaming again sometime in the future...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I like sparkly stuff. And the color purple. I think it's the ADHD talking. OOH SHINY!
