My self-summary
I'm at home wherever there's a place full of books and friends who I can call family. I pursue my goals relentlessly.

Nothing is more fun to me than a thought-provoking conversation or a heated debate. Every person has a different perspective, and it is awesome to be able to incorporate them to yours.

I think one has to be able to laugh at how absurd life can be sometimes, and to create your own meaning. And when that is said and done, to go run outside under the rain.

I believe in books as lenses to see reality in new ways. I probably read way more than I should, and then some.

I sing a lot, in and out of the shower. I sleep until late and wake up a (friendly) zombie (braaaains...). Hence my incurable addiction to caffeine.

If you find yourself nodding and smiling while you read this, take another sip of that large coffee of yours and drop me a line, or a few.

After 6 awesome years in New York City, I moved to Ann Arbor for a postdoc (I know, living the dream). Wherever I am, I try to live one day at a time, keeping my eyes open for surprise and opportunity.
What I’m doing with my life
Reading all books that seem worth reading.

Singing in crowded, public places.

Currently a postdoc at U of M in applied mathematics.
I’m really good at
Engaging in discussions and debates of all kinds
Teaching and making people like math.
Being nocturnal
Adopting other people's accents
The first things people usually notice about me
"You're Mexican? Wait... you don't have an accent..."

Big brown eyes and a broad shoulder span. I've been told I give a great hug.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Kundera, Italo Calvino, Camus, Rushdie, Steinbeck, Cortazar, Borges, Dostoievsky, Kafka, Poe, Asimov, Vonnegut, Juan Rulfo, Eco, Vargas Llosa, Roberto Bolaño, David Mitchell, Jose Saramago and Goran Petrovic.

Alessandro Baricco's Oceano Mare rocked my socks. For my latest recommended read: the weird and marvelous Jitterbug perfume by Tim Robbins.

Movies: I am a fan of hard Sci-Fi and foreign films. My only turn-offs are horror (not scared) and comedy that is too slapstick.

TV Shows: Daily Show, Last Week Tonight, Game of Thrones, Marco Polo, Big Bang Theory, House, How I Met Your Mother, Firefly, Friends, Seinfeld, Breaking Bad, Fringe.

Music: Bossa Nova, Jazz, Rock in Spanish, Trova, Classic Rock, Accoustic Pop. Bonus Points if you enjoy Jorge Drexler, Fernando Delgadillo, Vinicio du Morais or Peter Mulvey.

Food: There is a special place in my heart (ehem, stomach) for Mediterranean, Mexican and Chinese food.
The six things I could never do without
1) Close encounters with remarkable people.
2) Intellectual challenges
3) A great novel
4) Internet
5) Caffeine
6) Novelty
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What do these results mean / imply?
What was the motivation behind that person / character's actions? What was he / she thinking?
What are the limits of our understanding?

I also daydream a lot and spend inordinate amounts of time memorizing lyrics.
On a typical Friday night I am
No night is "typical". I've learned to embrace and participate of the unexpected.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Lets discuss it after a few drinks, or a bit of fun salsa dancing.
You should message me if
You want to. I'd encourage it especially if:
Intellect, passion, drive and curiosity are attractive to you.
