My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Half Mexican, half Catalan. I'm at home wherever there's a place full of books and friends who I can call my family. I pursue my goals relentlessly.

Nothing is more fun to me than a thought-provoking conversation or a heated debate. Every person has a different perspective on what it is to be human, and it is awesome to be able to incorporate them to yours.

Although of course, one has to be able to laugh at how absurd life can be sometimes, and to create your own meaning, or at least your own sense of humor. Or, I dunno, to go run outside under the rain.

I believe in books as lenses to see reality in new ways. I probably read way more than I should, and then some.

My mood in the morning improves considerably after singing a few songs (in or out of the shower). Caffeine helps, of course.

If you find yourself nodding and smiling while you read this, take another sip of that large coffee of yours and drop me a line, or a few.

Just moved to Ann Arbor, after 6 awesome years in New York City. I'm excited to see what new adventures ensue.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Trying to understand the world, other people, and myself.
Reading all books that seem worth reading.
Singing in crowded, public places.

Starting a postdoc at U of M in applied mathematics.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Engaging in discussions and debates of all kinds
Teaching and making people like math.
Being nocturnal
Adopting other people's accents
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
"You're Mexican? Wait... you don't have an accent..."

Big brown eyes and a broad shoulder span. I've been told I give a great hug.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Books:
Kundera, Italo Calvino, Camus, Rushdie, Murakami, Coetzee, Steinbeck, Cortazar, Borges, Dostoievsky, Kafka, Poe, Asimov, Stephenson, Hesse, Vonnegut, Juan Rulfo, Mario Benedetti, Eco, Vargas Llosa, Roberto Bolaño, David Mitchell, Jose Saramago, Javier Marias, and Goran Petrovic.

Alessandro Baricco's Oceano Mare rocked my socks. Y'all should give it a try.

Movies: I am also a fan of hard Sci-Fi and of foreign films. My only turn-offs are horror (not scared) and comedy that is too slapstick.

TV Shows: Daily Show, Game of Thrones, Big Bang Theory, House, How I Met Your Mother, Firefly, Friends, Seinfeld, Bones, Fringe.

Music: Bossa Nova, Jazz, Rock in Spanish, Trova, Classic Rock, Accoustic Pop. Bonus Points if you enjoy Jorge Drexler, Fernando Delgadillo, Vinicio du Morais or Peter Mulvey.

Food: There is a special place in my heart (ehem, stomach) for Mediterranean, Mexican and Chinese food.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1) Close encounters with remarkable people.
2) Intellectual challenges
3) A great novel
4) Internet
5) Caffeine
6) Novelty
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What do these results mean / imply?
What was the motivation behind that person / character's actions? What was he / she thinking?
What are the limits of our understanding?

I also daydream a lot and spend inordinate amounts of time memorizing lyrics.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
No night is "typical". I've learned to embrace and participate of the unexpected.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Lets discuss it after a few drinks, or a bit of fun salsa dancing. (Lets go to Bar Louie or to Havana!).
