Then again, perhaps I am being too pedantic, so I'll try to do both.
First of all, despite how it may seem above, I do not take myself seriously, and I do not get along with anyone who does. If you are pretentious, and can't laugh at yourself... Well, lets just say, I like people who can take a good-natured ribbing from time to time. The best kind of friends are those who can throw playful insults back and forth at each other without getting upset or sensitive.
The best one-word description for me would be "curious". I am curious about the world, the universe, what makes people tick, what's around that street corner. I also adore sharing that curiosity with someone, and I want someone who will enjoy exploring the universe with me.
I am someone who can enjoy spending the day marathoning a TV show, but I get anxious when entire weekends pass without a single reason to leave the apartment. I want someone with free time enough to go out for weekend adventures with me, even if it just going to see a movie, or walking around Boston, or some North Shore town like Salem, or less touristy areas.
In the more relationshipy areas, I suppose you could say that I enjoy a lot of contact. Cuddling with someone cute (even if just a cuddle-buddy) is about the best thing in the world. I also have a rather large libido, but that is fortunately, or unfortunately depending on who you ask, balanced out by being inherently respectful, considerate and non-aggressive. I'd say I am very "open-minded", but not crude.
To sum up, I am an intelligent, clever, curious, and considerate guy.
Update: My offer on a house was accepted!! Wooo!
For work, I am a system administrator. For the layman, that means I am a professional computer geek, which is a good thing. I am fairly comfortable where I am on a professional level at the moment, so most of my self-improvement is in the personal area.
When I was a kid, I was big into art. I am just now rediscovering that. I have picked up the paint brush again, and I work on the occasional "project". Check my Halloween photo to see the Death Ray I made.
I am also always looking for some adventurous thing to do with a close friend or date. For example, last year I bought my first DSLR, then went up to Rockport to see The Paper House, and ended up finding an old abandoned factory, which was great for photos. Last summer I spent three days hiking in the mountains up north, looking for hidden treasure, as part of an "Adventure Challenge" game. Finally, just a couple days ago, I bought a telescope, so I could try some astrophotography, but also as an excuse to drive out to the middle of nowhere and find places to star-gaze.
My favorite genre would be Urban Fantasy, which would include writers like Neil Gaimen and Charles De Lint.
I also read non-fiction books from science writers like Brian Greene.
Fantasy and sci-fi is where it is at for me, with a healthy dosage of comedy and horror.
Just a few of my favorites, off the top of my head:
Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
Bridge to Terabithia
Army of Darkness
Anything by Joss Whedon. Seriously. That man is a God. Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse.
The usual suspects like The Daily Show, Southpark, Family Guy, Futurama
New Scifi like Doctor Who, Warehouse 13, Sherlock
BBC shows like The IT Crowd
Older shows like Seinfeld
For music, my tastes are pretty broad. I usually let Pandora do its thing, so I can't write out a pretentious list of indie bands like most people here seem to. Pretty much I like everything except for rap, hip-hop, and country. But to be more specific, I most enjoy listening to classic and hard rock, and occasionally I switch to some jazz.
Roof over my head
Also, if you actually have the time for someone new in your life.
