I am literate, humorous, and tachyons.

My Self-Summary

After spending way too much time in grad school, I entered the work force and completely changed careers, with absolutely rotten timing: missing the bio tech boom, and hitting the dot com meltdown. Along the way, I somehow acquired eclectic tastes - world beat, folk, jazz and blues in music. I have always had a penchant for Asian cuisine, but also enjoy Indian and other varied foods. Favorite reaturants are The Counter, Inn of the Seventh Ray, and the new Whole Foods market in Venice, where, it seems, many people are "eating out" cafeteria style!? I teach (or try to) Scuba on some weekends. To keep in shape, I swim and exercise, semi-religiously. I listen to NPR a fair amount, since I commute between San Diego and Santa Monica.

What I’m doing with my life

Writing, studying, teaching, not necessarily in that order.

I’m really good at

Teaching first aid, Scuba, etc., but my students may beg to differ! Also, analyzing complex systems, and finding inherent flaws.

The first things people usually notice about me

My blue-green eyes, but...

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Almost anything Schnable or Calamar plays (KCRW); I tend towards science fiction or escapism in movies - favorites shows are/were Battlestar Galactica (new series)- very well acted, ensemble cast, and a great story of conflict between man and machine trying to become human; Total Recall and 2001 - classic twisted endings, missing from most science fiction movies; Firefly; some foreign films: Like Water for Chocolate, Tampopo, etc.

Also enjoy comedians/social commentators: Eddie Izzard, David Sedaris, Allen King (who?), Larry Miller, George Carlin (RIP), etc.

The six things I could never do without

An internet connection
Sunday LA Times, Chicago Times, and/or NY Times - but the ownership has laid off brilliant writers - so sad. What is happening to news coverage in the USA?
My laptop
Swimming/diving/sailing - some water to be on top of, or underneath
CES - I love tech, and beating up on vendors who make outlandish claims
My grandmother's Toll House cookie recipe

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Politics, the environment, cosmological questions, and the meaning of existance. Why no one has come close to Monty Python's Flying Circus, or In Living Color, or Kids in the Hall since those shows left the airwaves. Why the country voted for Bush a *second* time. Are we that jingoistic? Somewhat varied in politics - mostly liberal, possibly a little less so on a few issues.

On a typical Friday night I am

Commuting between San Diego and Santa Monica; then surfing or reading.
Sometimes reading OKC profiles ;-(

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Later, like everyone else

You should message me if

You are active, take care of yourself, and are interested in conversation, meeting, LTR, or... I'm tired of the bar scene, and am looking for someone of intelligence to carry on conversations, occassional or more often athletic pusuits, and who also enjoys theatre, plays, performances, etc. Or travel: I have neglected to mention that, but it is a big part of what everyone likes to do (and me), along with the "moonlit walks on the beach" Fun, but hardly unique. I do like travel, just it takes time to pick up and leave, then of course, you wish you'd booked more time at your destination, then on return, why did I pick LA to live?? lulz
