I am educated, fun, and adventurous.
My Self-Summary
I am a graduate student in Biology/math. I enjoy life and try and
have an adventure every so often. I love to travel. I have been to
12 countries and like 21 states. Lived in 4 cities, 3 states, two
countries.
Basically I love to learn, but I am lazy so sometimes and I need
extra motivation of a due date. Academic topics that I enjoy are
philosophy, religious studies, math, history, and pretty much
anything else that intrigues me. I like to read I have a list of
books I plan on reading and can spend so much if I let myself have
free range in a book store.
I love being outside. I try and eat lunch outside everyday. My
favorite outside adventures... snowboarding, sports, kayaking/river
rafting (I have gone ocean/lake kayaking, and done river kayaking
once, and river rafting like 5 times), I like to hike, I love to
camp. I play ultimate frisbee about once a week.
I think I need to dance more - at the club, swing dancing, latin
dancing, tap dancing, jazz, hip hop...
I also enjoy doing crafts - like sewing (almost done with this
dress I'm making), scrapbook, make decorations. I love food - to
cook and experiment with a new restaurant.
What I’m doing with my life
I am trying to get my Ph.D. right now. I am also trying to explore
Texas and make a balance in my life of fun and work.
I’m really good at
Having a fun time camping, at festivals, and being outside. When I
was in high school I was really good at naming the song and artist
for music on the radio, though that has diminished as I have gotten
older. My friends think I am good at complimenting them.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I am a woman, probably. People do tend to notice my naturally
curly hair or my bright blue eyes. Also people notice that I speak
quickly, especially when I am excited about something. Oh, and I
have a great laugh!
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I always have a difficult time listing favorites. My favorite book
of all time is probably Ender's Game. Some of my other favorites:
Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach, Harry Potter
Series, Anne of Green Gable Series, Jane Eyre by Bronte. I read a
lot actually. The books that I am currently reading or have bought
to read in the near future include: Dracula by Bram Stoker, Women
Don't Ask by Linda Babcock, An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon,
Syren by Angie Sage.
Some of my favorite movies: Shawshank redemption, Anne of Green
Gables, Dazed and Confused, When Harry Met Sally, Matrix... I
dunno, I like comedies, dramas, and action.
Some of my favorite music: Ani Difranco, Nine Inch Nails, Andrew
Bird, Nirvana, Beatles, Pennywise, Regina Spektor.. I pretty much
like at least one song from every genre... some genres more songs
than others.
I like finding new restaurants in Houston that I haven't been to
and then trying their food. Currently my favorite food type is
probably Indian Food. I also find myself buying lots of produce at
the grocery store - love me some vegetables and fruits!.. and Mt.
Dew.
The six things I could never do without
1. Family
2. Ability to go outside and experience the outdoors
3. Environment to learn - whether in a formal educational
environment, in a new situation, at church, ability to read on a
topic.
4. Situations which make me smile/laugh
5. Friends
6. Internet to quickly resolve debates and answer questions
I spend a lot of time thinking about
If I am doing something that makes me happy.
On a typical Friday night I am
Sometimes I'm out with friends at a movie or out to dinner,
sometimes watching tv relaxing, sometimes reading a book, sometimes
at work.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I repierced my ears about 6 months ago with a safety pin because I
wanted to wear a pair of earrings, though I hadn't really worn
earrings for about 10 years. Maintaining my hole (with antiseptic
and wearing earrings) was more effort than I remembered it being -
no wonder they closed to begin with!
