My self-summary
I'm kind of a weirdo. Perhaps I should start using the word eccentric.
I work outside so I have a beard when it gets cold out and shave it off when it gets warm out.
I prefer the English spelling of words.
I'm probably too immature for my own good. Not to be confused with irresponsible, mind you.
I have a tendency to play devil's advocate, but it's all in fun.
I exude my own brand of dry sarcasm, and I have a warped sense of humour that makes me pretty good at Cards Against Humanity.
I take pictures of any flowers that I do not know so I can ID them.
I enjoy REEEEEEAALLY bad puns. For example, have you heard the conspiracy theory that JFK was murdered by pro-Castro pigeons? The night before the assassination, eyewitnesses heard groups of pigeons softly saying "Coup, Coup..."

All in all, I'm a redneck with a bit of culture. I grew up on a farm then fell in love with Chicago. My job has also made me a redneck in the most literal sense. Currently doing native restoration of Jackson Park, while living in Woodstock. I'm moving back to Chicago in May.

More to come later. Mayhap.
What I’m doing with my life
I hit the reset button about 2 years ago quitting my cushy gub'ment job and went back to school so that I could do something I'm passionate about. I got lots of criticism for it, but I'm happy with my do-over, even though I probably won't make lots o money in my field.
I work for an ecological restoration firm and I love it. I'm currently managing the crew that's doing the native restoration of Jackson Park.
I just finished getting my master's degree in environmental management last May.
I’m really good at
karaoke, chainsaws, (prescribed) fire, plants, insects, birds, being a music snob
The first things people usually notice about me
My smirk?
And the rest would depend on how obnoxious I'm feeling at the time.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Reading... I pretty much read field guides and scientific papers. Kinda boring, I know. When I got a book called Plants of the Chicago Region and geeked out about it something major.
Last book I read: Brief History in Time by Stephen Hawking. I occasionally read passages from Marcus Arelius' Meditations.
Last fiction: Porno by Irving Welsh
Favorite author: Edgar Allen Poe
Minor correction, I just started reading my first fictional work in years, and it's Dante's Divine Comedy. It's fun to read aloud.
I also read a lot of comic books.

Movies... As I've gotten older it seems like the dumber the better. Jason X is one of the greatest comedies ever. And I like big, loud eighties-style action movies. Like Robocop. It's been especially nice lately since they've made a comeback.

I don't watch TV. I do watch some internet shows and some Netflix though. I love Trailer Park Boys, and The Flash.

Music... I have over 1400 cds. I'm sure I have something you like and something you don't. There's death metal, rap, punk, grunge, industrial, classical, movie soundtracks, new wave, goth, pop, and more in there. The genre I'm the lightest on is country.
Favorite artists include The Cure, NIN, The Replacements, Alice In Chains, & Nobuo Uematsu

Food... Sushi, Peruvian, Mexican, Italian, Kuma's, and more
The six things I could never do without
My Ipod
The Internets
A pocketknife
Friends & Family to terrorize
Mint - esp Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum virginianum) or Altoids
A good laugh
Honourable mentions to my cats, and my black beauty Les Paul
I spend a lot of time thinking about
-How can an object can have a spin of 2? Damn you Stephen Hawking.
-Resource conservation
-Plants: their flowers & their ecosystems
-How much better R. Kelly's music gets when he embraces his inner scumbag. Same with Kanye. Please get crazier and more indulgent! Then let's see that R. Kelly/Kanye crossover at the height of its debauchery!
On a typical Friday night I am
Something fairly low key, usually a movie or one o my internet shows.

When I can, I like to do the karaoke.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Isn't admitting something here by definition not private?

So much for the non-answer, how about some of my musical guilty pleasures: Lisa Loeb, Sarah McLaughlin, C&C Music Factory, and Lionel Richie to name a few.

Some character flaws I'm willing to admit:
I'm messy.
I'm a lousy cook. EDIT: I can cook chili and some soups now.
I can get impatient, yet,
I have a tendency to procrastinate.
I can be at times rather oblivious.

I'm working on these though.
You should message me if
You like karaoke, snowboarding, hiking, nature, or if you like music WAAAAAY too much. Must be able to handle teasing; it's the preferred way to show affection between me and my family and friends.
Also if you miss the triceratops.
