I am here, there, and everywhere.
My Self-Summary
Hello, there! My name is Joe, and I am native to the Dallas
area.
I have been separated since last year and in the middle of a
divorce, so I am here to meet some new people and adjust to
"singleness" once again. Long-term dating will have to wait until
things are final, but I'd love to find some locals who enjoy
concerts,
major-league
baseball, and the occasional excursion
to the great outdoors.
I do have three children (2/3 of them
twins, all of them
adopted), and I am very involved in
their lives. They stay with me 8-10 days a month, giving me plenty
of time to be social without worrying about child care. However if
kids are not your thing, then romantically I am not in the long
term, either.
I am a
teacher by
trade, and I am most drawn to all kinds of
creative people and those who see their
lives most fulfilled when they are helping others.
What I’m doing with my life
Starting over!
As an "emerging single," I am building up my network of single
friends and acquaintances (both local and online-only), so feel
free to sign on!
I’m really good at
Getting deep with people. I am very much a
"beyond-the-surface" kind of man when it comes to my close
relationships. If there is more to you than meets the eye, I am
eager to know that.
Being reliable. I consider it a privilege to give of myself
to those I care about. A life lived solely for oneself seems pretty
empty to me.
Treating Jeopardy! as a spectator sport. I mean this.
I talk to the contestants like some talk to NFL wide receivers who
miss that pass. Oh, and you will lose, but I win graciously.
Any takers?
Flirting. It will happen. Yes, even if we both understand
that we are just friends. Grasp the difference between harmless
flirting and coming on to someone, and enjoy the attention!
The first things people usually notice about me
My height. Yep. Five-foot-five. I tried being taller, but it just
didn't take. Ah, well:
God gives some height, and the rest get
personality. I am most pleased where I ended up (or DOWN, depending
on your perspective)!
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: The Time Traveler's Wife, Cien años de soledad,
The Kite Runner, The Tipping Point, The Working Poor,The Thirteenth
Tale, This Book Will Save your Life, The Scarlet Letter, Don
Quijote, the Bible, books on sociology and education and church
history and theology, biographies of fascinating people, the Ian
Fleming 007 novels, the books and essays on race by John McWhorter,
and anything else that catches my eye and has a compelling argument
or narrative.
Music: I like a wide variety of music. My iPod has a little
bit of everything, ranging from Texas country to classical to jazz
to hard rock and metal to electronic music to folky kinds of stuff
to scaled-down, melodic, acoustic stuff. In the past several
months, I have attended concerts by
Aimee Mann and
Fishbone, and I generally gravitate
toward smaller venues rather than the big arenas (the long-awaited
Police reunion
being a notable exception). If you know who these artists are, you
are already in the plus column with me.
Check out my Pandora profile at
http://www.pandora.com/people/josreform to see what my current
favorite flavors are.
Movies: My two favorite films are
The Shawshank
Redemption and
Lawrence of Arabia.
Rushmore and
Office Space rank
among favorites as well. I do like the sci-fi (watching
Star Wars on the big
screen at age five undoubtedly was one of those "turning point"
moments in my formative years), but I enjoy basically anything
well-written and well-acted. And
Steve Martin is the funniest man on
the planet, followed closely by me. :)
TV: I would not watch much TV at all if it were not for
Hulu and on-demand
episodes at the network sites.
Lost and
Battlestar Galactica are
two on my "must-not-miss" list. I enjoy
House, but you fans of it should thank me
for not watching it too often. Most shows I fall in love with (like
Firefly and
Arrested
Development and
Jericho) vanish when I start becoming
devoted to them. Being the music fan that I am,
Austin City Limits ranks
up there, too.
Food: I love
Mexican food most of all, and I
would not be a true
Texan if I turned my nose up at a good
steak or
barbecue.
I do like cleverness, creativity, and originality in what I listen
to, what I read, and what I watch. Any suggestions? Send them my
way!
The six things I could never do without
1, 2, 3. my kids
4. my
iPod
5. My computer (I am a
Mac, not a PC, thank you very much)
6.
Dr Pepper
I spend a lot of time thinking about
EVERYTHING. I am always turning something over in my mind. I
am a reflective man who analyzes everything too much sometimes, but
I am getting better at avoiding the over-analysis.
Be prepared to deal with me thinking out loud and you becoming a
sounding board if you decide to integrate your life with mine. Your
perspectives on things are most welcome, too!
On a typical Friday night I am
Alternates between spending time with the kids or going out to do
something.
At this point in my life, I do not prefer to stay at home when
there are things to experience out there. I like
live music, dining out, bowling,
and other attractions that I can take part in with good company and
good conversation. Not into the bar/club scene, although a good pub
with good friends will draw me in from time to time.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I wish I could
time-travel, thanks to having
watched
Doctor
Who since I was in elementary school (thank you, PBS and
Bittorrent!)
You should message me if
...you find me charming enough to talk to;
...you understand my situation means that I am not racing you to
the altar;
...you like REAL conversation, whether it be serious or
light-hearted; or
...you have anything you need to confess. :)
