My self-summary
A couple of years ago, my friends and I sailed the short distance to Blake Island to spend the night. We spent the time listening to music, cooking good food, and talking about life. We slept under the stars packed like sardines in and on the boat, after sitting around a campfire late into the night. In the morning we took our time walking the perimeter of the island lamenting the fact that Monday morning was approaching. And then! On our way back to Seattle, a pod of orca whales surfaced about 15 feet from us. It was amazing.

Looking back, I realize that trip encompasses most things that I value in life: fresh air and nature, discussions with down-to-earth intelligent people, enjoying food as a process and not just a product, and singing along to music.
What I’m doing with my life
I work as a behavior analyst which means that I take the principles of behavior and apply them to helping children with disabilities.
I teach teenagers skills that help them lead more independent, fulfilled lives. I also work with the parents of these children to help empower them to teach the same skills.

And other stuff (see above).
I’m really good at
Organization. Getting up early. Getting up early + going running. Parallel parking. Staying calm in stressful situations. Floating on rivers. Remembering song lyrics. Being prepared.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I like Barbara Kingsolver, Haruki Murakami, Ian Frazier, Hemingway. Short stories and non fiction. Cookbooks. Most books I read for my friendswholiketoreadandeatanddrinkwineand book club. The New Yorker.

Netflix usually recommends: 30 Rock, Documentaries, Arrested Development, Bill Murray movies, British Dramas, etc. Lately I've been into Friday Night Lights. Why do I think it's so damn good?

I tend to be very romantic about music. Some all time favorites are: Paul Simon, Emmylou Harris, The Band, The Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones. But I also listen to more contemporary musicians! Gillian Welch, Andrew Bird, Animal Collective, Beach House, The Black Keys, Dawes, Iron and Wine, and on and on and on.

I love to cook; I love to eat. Pretty simple. Healthy eating is a value of mine, but I'm also partial to buttery breads and cheeseburgers. And oysters. I love oysters.
The six things I could never do without
There are a lot of good people in my life that I'd like to keep there: my parents, my brothers, close friends.

I also wonder what I would do without the internet, Burt's Bees, a strong cocktail, and a radio. And where would any of us be without SmartWool socks?!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Science. Why people do the things they do. The answers to crossword puzzles.
On a typical Friday night I am
Dining and drinking with friends. Maybe lying on my couch (listening to Tom Waits).
