My self-summary
I am a creative person who would normally be too bashful to call himself a creative person. But you gotta sort of talk yourself up on these things, right? I've lived in L.A. most of my life since college (USC) and grew up in St. Louis, Maryland, and Boston. People say I’m a nice guy (but I just act the way I think everyone ought to act… nice). I have a great love of (almost all) animals, (most) music and (too few) movies. I am very allergic to birds, including down feathers. I like long walks on the beach, short walks on the beach, and medium-length walks on the beach. I enjoy meeting open-minded people who enjoy exploring new places and trying new things. That last sentence I ripped off from the sample paragraph on the Match.com web site… but it pretty much applies to me. So does the following sentence (also ripped off from the Match.com paragraph): Anyone who is easy-going, sociable, and loves to laugh will get along great with me.
The "loves to laugh" thing always gets me. EVERYONE says they love to laugh. Is there anybody out there who HATES to laugh? No, there isn't. (Except maybe Dick Cheney.)
I’m really good at
Writing. (I strive to be better.) I'm good at using parentheses (I use them too much). I'm good at being a friend. I don't think I'm very good at filling out these forms.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eerie resemblance to Bradley Cooper. Or that I'm Jewish. I actually don't know - you'd have to ask the "people."
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Gee, where to start? BOOKS: Something Happened, Catch 22, almost anything by Paul Auster, Alan Moore, Chris Ware, Stephen Crane, Mark Twain. MOVIES: 70's movies - Cassavetes, Scorcese, Coppola. Kubrick was a god. David Lynch is a god. So were Hitchcock, Orson Welles. But I also like "What About Bob?" and I recently enjoyed the "21 Jump Street" movie. TELEVISION: Breaking Bad, the Wire, South Park, Homeland, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, 60 Minutes, Downton Abbey. Music: the Handsome Family, Ween, Nirvana, R.E.M., Pixies, mewithoutyou, John Grant, Haruko, Kate Bush, the Beatles, Cocteau Twins, His Name is Alive, the Doors, CCR, a ZILLION others... FOOD: yes.
The six things I could never do without
(In no order of preference:)
Dogs
My Family
Breakfast cereal
Laughter
Music
Art
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The meaning of certain obtuse song lyrics. What animals are thinking about. How the iPhone screen knows where my finger is.
On a typical Friday night I am
Partying. Just kidding. Going to a movie, going out to eat, or hanging out at home, watching Bill Maher.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I don't confess things to computer forms.
