My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am earnest, robust, and too smart for my own good.

If you listen, I will become animated while describing my research project(s).

I'm really into science (mine and everybody's), reading, my own personal fitness, live music, and socializing.

I'm also, in general, game for anything. I may be awful at it, but I'm down.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work full time making radioactive copper, and trying to make it better. I'm also in drug development. It is exceptional. I'm also writing papers, reading, writing grants. I'm trying to finish my dissertation shortly.

I also spend a lot of time with some friends I made at the St. Louis ARC.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Well chemistry, biology, technical writing

I guess, drinking? I'm always getting complemented on how well I handle myself while inebriated. It is a little annoying. If you take me out, don't try to get me drunk.

I am a funny drunk, a loquacious drunk, but I am, at this stage in my life extraordinarily unlikely to be drunk. I drink with moderation, socially.

Camping, backpacking, etc. . . (Eagle Scout)

The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have amazing hair. People touch it and just kind of sigh. It's cathartic for them, I think.

Maybe that I have glasses?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man, Infinite Jest, Theodore Rex, Cloud Atlas, Master and Margarita, ANYthing by Chekov, the Chronicles of Narnia, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is fantastic. Song of Ice and Fire. Neil Gaiman.

Ok, "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" was the best movie I've seen in a long time. I'm really not that trendy, but it was very good. Blah, not descriptive enough. My favorite recent movies are Donnie Darko, Fight Club, Lost in translation, Batman (is this recent?), American Beauty . Bad Education, 12 MonkeysAnything that makes our society look dystopian. Less recent: Belle Epoque, Delicatessen, On the Waterfront, gah Breakfast at Tiffany's, Vertigo

Shows, my TV doesn't get much use besides the occasional movie, and I don't have it connected to anything right now. But, I do watch Breaking Bad at a friend's house, catch up on the walking dead when I visit my brother, and watch Game of Thrones at a different friend's house. I think most of those shows max out on like 16 episodes per season, so it's not a huge investment.

Music, St. Vincent, Nine Inch Nails, early Guns n' Roses, Faith No More, N.I.L.8, Ethyl Meatplow, Pressure Drop, Sonic Youth Mind over Matter, Fiona Apple, Tegan and Sara, The Constantines, Von Iva, Fugazi, Godspeed You ! Black Emperor, The Raveonettes, Pinback, TV on the Radio, Crystal Castles, Pixies, Crass, DMX, Busta Rhymes, AFI, Wagner, Gallows, etc.

Food, I really like food. Food is the main reason that I spend time working out, i.e. so that I can eat more. That being said I like Tapas, sushi, Rare & Medium rare beef products, salad, lamb, pork, chicken, seafood. Ice cream. Good soup, especially from the Feedstore in Springfield, Il. I've been trending more vegetarian lately, but not unduly so.

I used to bartend, so drinks also. Not a huge beer guy, more cocktails and vino.

The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Without good suitably eclectic music playing in the background, a constant stream of concerts, and an influx of new music I would wither up and die. I have been known to read a lot. I can't imagine that I would be living happily without a stack good books by dead and weird white men of the last century (think Joyce, Hemmingway, Bulgakov, um, and Zora Nealy Hurston (but she was neither white or male? at least she's dead)). Also I enjoy books by living peoples, Pynchon, Morris (he wrote that delightful biography of Teddy Roosevelt (my favorite president - I still vote bull moose party))). Ok I'm counting those as five, and a bowl of french vanilla icecream topped with Creme de Menth (six).

OK everyone puts sex here, what the hell, is sex a thing? Meh.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
This question used to read something like "Who's mind would you trade places with", everyone wrote something insipid about how the question doesn't make any sense, instread of trying to answer the question to give people insight into their own particular eccentricities. That being said, it was such a particularly absurd question who could resist taking a swipe?

This is disturbing. Probably Kim Deal before she took all of those drugs, maybe a pro hockey player like Gretzky? I think I'd like to experience the celerity and focus that those guys have on a single thing (if only briefly). Wait what does this really mean? This is a silly silly question.

I would like to know what Kim Deal was thinking 12 years ago. I would like to feel my brain inside of Gretzky's body 15 years ago. Only I want to keep his basal ganglia, and the other things that control motor function. Otherwise he wouldn't be all that famous now. Please believe me when I write that this isn't some sort of pro-athlete fantasy thingy.

So what do I actually think about?

Well Science, mostly

Recently, I've decided that we need to take a good hard second (or third) look at eugenics. This is an awful thing to say. But there are people out there who are buying luxury SUVs, and they are breeding. This madness must be stopped, no matter how horrific the cost.

I'm really only half joking

I really hate house centipedes, but worse than house centipedes I hate John Ashcroft and all that he has ever done or stood for.

Television is a wonderful source of entertainment. It is also destroying everything good about american literature and eloquence. I would say go to a Library, but we live in a service economy now, you should buy a book (preferably in an indie store).

The health industry in america will be the real downfall of our nation.

Limn is a very pretty word, but not as sorrowful and graceful as apoptosis.

I have never met anyone who deserves to earn more than a million a year. If someone claims this you should punch them.

I think about words a lot, their roots, meaning, and their exact meaning

I think that the only consistently winning Major League baseball team you can root for and not be a jerk is the Cardinals.

On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Out at some alternative bar, playing at the City Museum, flying somewhere, drinking clandestinely in a movie theater - making believe that it is still prohibition, or (sob) in the lab practicing murine microsurgery -- working on my lab tan.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My vocabulary is in decline, scientific jargon is what I use to describe the world most of the time.

I find this both nifty and unnerving. I've been known to use a phrase like "orders of magnitude" when discussing soup.

You are a Rocker and /or you Rock out. & you can put up with my belief that punctuation is a malleable entity (on the other hand if you overlook the occasional grotesque mistake - you can skip my explanations (which are normally bullshit) on why making that mistake was in fact an attempt to transcend the aesthetics of our language).

Message me if you enjoy life. I love, love life, and I think mine is blessed and amazing. The only thing that would make it more so would be a companion.

I don't have a type. Sometimes I think I do, I don't. I've had amazing relationships with amazingly varied people. I like smart women, I like hippies, I like tattooed women, I like punk girls, I like society events, I like hosting dinner parties. I like getting into a mosh pit at a metal show. I like eccentrics.

Also please message me if you are a Finlander, I love Finland.
