Befuddled by the the grey skies. While this is my lifelong home, after spending several years as a ski bum in Aspen, I'm questioning the sanity of us all for tolerating the endless bleeeek that is most of the year here. There are places — beautiful places that feature numerous 14k peaks, 300 days of sunshine, alpine lakes, dry air, nighttime snowfall, & daytime bluebird excuses-to-yodle champagne powder. Ok. There is one place. Aspen. Just isn't the hub of global-health + tech I need it to be ... plus, the brick buildings here in Pioneer Square are kinda my thing. Lightrail at my doorstep doesn't hurt either. &Glorious food — ethiopian, thai, indian, real sushi, affordable wine from the Trader. Gosh it's a tough call.

— Listen — Every blue moon I hit pause on my latest audio book and fire up Pandora's Bluegrass station. Often I'll clean the apartment with a fiddle to my step.
— Munch — My cow is currently enjoying a diet of clover'n'grass, hoooofing it up the hills of the Wallowas in North-Eastern Oregon, enjoying a life that very few cattle these days are blessed with. Soon, she will be on my plate—your's too if you'd like a taste—and I will be grateful for the work she put into converting the scrub and sun of the Earth into gamey proteins and rich healthy fats that will sustain me for a year to come. Thank you cow.

Samuel looked at the drawing. What is it?
I'm trying to work out a gate-opener so a man won't have to get out of his rig. Here's the pull-rod to open the latch.
What's going to open it?
I figured a strong spring.
Samuel studied the drawing. Then what's going to close it?
This bar here. It would slip to this spring with the tension the other way.
I see, said Samuel. It might work too, if the gate was truly hung. And it would only take twice as much time to make and keep up as twenty years of getting out of the rig and opening the gate.
Tom protested, Sometimes with a skittish horse—
I know, said his father. But the main reason is that it's fun.
Tom grinned. Caught me, he said.
