I am open-minded, enigmatic, and professional.
My Self-Summary
Hi, my name is Mark, and I'm kind, thoughtful, and open-minded. I
try to follow the golden rule: do unto others as you would have
donest unto you, or whatever.
I have had several relationships, the last one with a man I thought
as "the one" until we broke up in July 2004.
It's taken a while but I'm ready to risk emotionally investing in a
relationship again. And I'm always open to new friendships with
easy-going people.
At the end of the day, I'm a moist robot like everyone else.
What I’m doing with my life
Since graduating from the University of Bristol with a degree in
Computer Science in 1993, I have worked as a programmer and trainer
in England and the U.S. including for Microsoft in Seattle.
During 2005 I studied screenwriting at Vancouver Film School.
Although I have now returned to my IT career, during my spare time
I am creating animated web TV episodes using Flash and writing an
Oscar-winning feature screenplay. ;-)
I currently work freelance, teaching programming for companies in
the UK, Europe and US. But now I'm getting close to 40, I'm
thinking about what I want to do next.
So I am investigating the option of becoming a secondary school
teacher. Probably ICT or maths or science. It all depends how I
find teaching kids rather than adults. It's gonna be a challenge
for sure.
I’m really good at
Teaching: I'm patient and a good listener so I can adapt my
teaching style to the learner. And I'm passionate about teaching.
It gives me great satisfaction to pass on skills and knowledge to
others. There's nothing like seeing the lightbulb go on over
someone's head.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm tall (6'2") and have sparkling blue eyes.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
BOOKS Parliament of Whores by P.J. O'Rourke, Pedro and Me by Judd
Winnick
TELEVISION: Battlestar Galactica, Buffy, Firefly, Lost, Real Time
with Bill Maher, The Big Bang Theory, The Daily Show, The Office,
The West Wing
MOVIES Jaws, Shelter, Run Lola Run, The Talented Mr Ripley, Trick,
The Quiet American, V for Vendetta
MUSIC All kinds: blink 182, Alanis Morisette, Vertical Horizon,
Eminem, Boys Like Girls, Nickelback, OneRepublic, Staind
FOODS Everything! I have a Homer-esque relationship with food
(funny-Homer, not tragic-Greek-Homer): mmmmmm! Except triffle and
boiled/fried eggs (together or separately)
The six things I could never do without
1) family and friends 2) fast Internet connection + laptop 3)
health 4) pen and paper 5) passport 6) imagination
I spend a lot of time thinking about
1) the meaning of life, 2) sexual fantasies, 3) how to commit the
perfect crime, 4) nose-bleed-causing TV shows
On a typical Friday night I am
Attending a writer's group meeting, drinking in a pub with friends,
or snuggled on my sofa watching a film or TV with a bottle of Pinot
Noir. It would be nice to have someone to share it with. ;-)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
When I was a kid, I was never affected by emotional scenes in
movies (probably suppressing my "gay" emotions). But after coming
out in my late 20s, I saw The Day of the Dolphin (awesome 70s
thriller) and cried. Ever since, I respond as filmmakers intend and
I now feel like a real member of the human race. (Mostly.)
You should message me if
I like men who are passionate about the things they enjoy because I
like learning new things, regardless of the topic.
If you like travelling we'll get on well. I like to explore the
world and see how different cultures handle common social issues.
You should be confident in yourself and your beliefs, but be open
to new ideas.
Physically I like the boy-next-door type. Not too overweight or too
skinny. As for hair/eye/skin colour: I really don't care. I like
men who have a wholesome, boyish face that at the same time hints
at a cheeky rebellious side.
I find tattoos and piercing sexy (I love kissing guys with pierced
tongues), but don't have any myself.
