Astronomer-turned-filmmaker -- I moved to NYC two years ago from Hawai'i. It's an interesting change of landscape, and I dare not get in the water.

I travel a lot - or used to when I was an astronomer - and often find myself on a remote island, in the middle of the woods, or in some various crazy situation - like on a raft with a group of bomb squad officers in Northern Spain who decide to dogpile on top of me every time we hit rapids.

I love old movies!

Making indie films. Producing indie films. Watching old black and white films.

What I wish I was doing more of -- hiking and kayaking.

Writing, white water rafting, salsa dancing, getting lost and finding my way home eventually.

I used to play footy for the UCL women's team in my college days. When I moved to Hawai'i I traded in my cleats for a surfboard, which I loved but turned out to be laughingly bad at. My reef scars have healed admirably well.

Right now I am reading "Anna Karenin." I just finished "Cassavetes on Cassavetes" and "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings." I love Flannery O'Connor.

My favorite films... The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Harold and Maude, Tender Mercies, Cabaret, Paris Texas, Rebecca, The Ice Storm, M, The Third Man, The Big Lebowski, Annie Hall, The Piano, Most films by Yimou Zhang, Ratcatcher, The Apartment, Fallen Angels, Silent Light, Nights of Cabiria, Redbeard, Tarkovsky's Stalker, The Spirit of the Beehive, Wuthering Heights (Andrea Arnold), and last but not least The Court Jester (1956).

For TV? I don't have a TV, but I try to catch Game of Thrones, The Daily Show, and BBC's Sherlock Holmes.

I listen to Nat King Cole, Johnny Cash, Sinatra, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Fats Waller, Villa-Lobos, Bob Dylan, Elliott Smith, Iron & Wine, Madeleine Peyroux, The Mountain Goats (if I'm in a funky mood), and Yann Tiersen.

If Jane Austen and Billy Wilder had a baby, I hope it would be something like me.
