My self-summary
One of the best things about my life is that I get to spend a significant amount of time with people who are ten. It's more interesting than you might think, and you learn something new every day. For example, a few weeks ago a fifth grader informed me that "tiger attacks are only 30% dangerous." Good to know. And a kindergartner told me she liked my face. It doesn't get much better than that, right? As a teacher, I try to keep my life balanced between work and fun. My friends and adult pursuits keep me sane.

I'm pretty happy by nature, but I also believe we choose whether or not to be happy. I like my life and I'm definitely looking for someone to spend it with, but the right person. I don't believe that we are incomplete without a romantic partner.

I like to go out and be social, but you're unlikely to find me at a downtown nightclub sipping overpriced cocktails and strutting around in skinny jeans. I like coffee shops, dive bars, and patios. I'd rather wear flip flops than stilettos and I'm not much for Top 40 radio or Ed Hardy apparel.

I believe that our inner selves are more important than our outer ones and that we are all intriguingly imperfect. I think men who are a little scruffy are sexy. I'm a little snobby about beer.

I don't hold grudges and I love my parents. I'd consider myself sex positive and pretty liberal. I have a huge crush on Ira Glass and I'm a book nerd.
What I’m doing with my life
Teaching, not writing my thesis, thinking about what project to embark on next, making Spotify playlists, writing in my journal, listening to and reading Dan Savage, plotting and planning for a beach vacation, looking for the perfect pair of jeans, longing for summer.
I’m really good at
making chocolate peanut butter cookies and fresh margaritas, diagramming sentences, speed reading, procrastinating at writing my thesis, running into things and developing bruises, and...daydreaming in the backyard. Also, spilling on myself. I attribute this mostly to reading and eating at the same time. Or, it could be that I'm just clumsy.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm Scandinavian? While I was traveling in Sweden, most people thought I was a native.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love this part! In one of my favorite movies of all time, the main character suggests that what's important when considering possible romantic partners isn't so much what they are like, but rather what they like. True? Who knows, but here goes: Harry Potter, Infidel, Game of Thrones, Johnny Cash, Brother Ali, Ryan Adams, Wilco, Mumford and Sons, Florence and the Machine, Dessa, Bon Iver, Sons of Anarchy, Weeds, Deadwood, Shameless, eggs benedict, When Harry Met Sally, LOTR, brunch, Surly Furious, seafood, Stuff White People Like, Freedom, Under the Banner of Heaven, M. Ward, The National, enchiladas verdes, old vine zin....and more.
The six things I could never do without
a good book, MacBook Pro, chapstick, a down comforter, Olive the cat, red pepper flakes, Chuck Taylors, the Current, hooded sweatshirts.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
where I parked my car, what to cook, what is wrong with Michelle Bachman, why I planted 8 kinds of tomatoes, what to Spotify, how to be a better teacher/friend/neighbor/human being, how the cat can possibly sleep so much, what house project to embark on next, why some people in my book club consistently never read the book.
On a typical Friday night I am
well, ideally at happy hour or otherwise spending time with friends. During the school year, though, I'm lucky if I make it to the Y and then home to relax with a glass of wine and whatever Netflix sent this week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have never been on a zombie pub crawl, but I have been in the world's longest soul train.

You are kind to service workers, animals and children. You have a tattoo, or not. You want to ride bikes. You think bacon is an important food group. You are appalled by Nickelback. You think quickmeme.com is hilarious. You are NOT a raging member of the Christian Right. You have actually read all/most of this. You have reasonably good grammar. You are not already married. (You'd be surprised.) Or just if you want to.
