multi-faceted, outspoken, and reliable
My self-summary Propose an edit
I am full of contradictions and proud of it!
So writing something about myself ist really difficult... I am
constantly discovering exploring and improving who I am and who I
want to be. I have decided to be _myself_ in all situations as much
as possible. I do not like wearing a metaphoric mask. With me, what
you see is what you get! Sometimes it is difficult though,
especially at work (hate wearing a suit but sometimes have to, for
example)... Of course I frequently surprise others with new facets
of my personality. And that is wonderful. Nobody will ever be able
to put me in a neat little box and stick a label to it. And
whenever I find myself inside such a box I do my best to break out
of it!
A few, more mundane facts: - I speak German (of course), English
(have lived over 7 years total in the USA), and some pieces of
French and Spanish. And I once took a one week tryout class of
Mandarin / Chinese. Of those, Spanish is the most beautiful
language to me. I dream in German or in English, I think in either
or sometimes a mixture of both. And sometimes I cannot find words
in any of my languages, very frustrating I tell you.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I am enjoying all the sidetracks on my path through life. My bio is
not straightforward or unidirectional - some might say it is
chaotic and unfocused. Those people will not become my good
friends!
What is most important to me is 1) the people I care for, I see
them as the family I have been able to choose 2) to be present in
the moment, not obsess about the past or worry about the
future.
Career: Success & status used to be important, but life is too
short. As long as I have work I enjoy, enough money to pay my bills
and have some fun too, and reasonable hours, I am content. I work
for a living, not live for working. I am also on a personal
spiritual journey. That turned out to be really exciting and really
rewarding.
This week I am starting a program to obtain a Masters in Science
Marketing. I am pretty excited about it, I hope to learn a lot of
new things and maybe meet a few interesting people too. This degree
will help me to move on, profession-wise, to something more
exciting in a few years' time. Of course, the additional time and
pressure worry me - will I still have enough energy to enjoy
life?
But my most immediate project is to redecorate my study corner: I
will finally be able to hang my "favorite friends foto gallery".
This will be fun, browsing through all the pictures, remebering the
times when they were taken, and deciding which one is the most
typical for each of them.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Improvising, both in the workshed and in the kitchen - my favorite
shop is the hardware / home
improvement store on my way home from work. I can make the most
awesome cakes and deserts, and eat lots of it too. Rearranging
furniture / redecorating a room so that
it looks bigger or more balanced. Remembering odd facts I heard or read
somewhere - OK, I admit, I used to read encyclopedias for fun. Too bad
that the stories are so short though *g*. Telling jokes.
Procrastinating.
And I am really bad at: Cooking without cream (heavy cream, mind
you). Keeping in touch with long-distance friends.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
My hair - it is thick and red and usually wild. And when I wear a
bandanna or braid my hair, even some of my friends do not recognize
me from a distance.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Books: I read mostly fantasy and science fiction, sometimes
vampire/werewolf
stories, sometimes thrillers. I used to read everything that is
printed even the candy wrappers, but I have become more selective.
Today it is really important to me that the characters are
convincing, especially the female characters. And that is difficult
to find, but I do not mind reading my favorite books over and over
again. The one book I could not live without is The Lord of the
Rings. However, the movies spoiled the fun in reading a little
bit for me. Some authors I like: Diana Paxson, Laurell K. Hamilton
some not all, Charlaine Harris last book I
bought was by her, Sheri S. Tepper when she is
not too preachy, Isaac Asimov the classic
SciFi-Writer!, I will add more after a look at my
bookshelves...
Movies: I prefer action, adventure, fantasy movies. Some comic book
adaptations are good, too. Some thrillers. Again, strong and
realistic female characters are important to me. I hate romantic
comedies (the only movie I walked out of was "How to lose a man in
10 days"), most animated movies, or the typical Hollywood comedy.
And horror movies give me nightmares. The next movie on my ToSee
list: Krabat.
Food: I absolutely love Indian food! I do eat meat but I
like vegetarian food too. I could not exist without fresh fruit, bacon, cream, chocolate or ice cream.
Music: My taste in music is somewhat mixed; I like a lot of
Eighties stuff,
some of it for sentimental reasons "those were the days..." like
Dire Straits,
Bruce
Springsteen, Madonna, Billy Joel, Billy Idol, Queen and many more. I admit, I own
several samplers with some kind of Best Of 80s selection. I also
like some Metal but
not al, more the melodious kind; not so well-known examples are
Falconer,
Freedom Call,
Sonata
Arctica. I also like Celtic folk music because I
love the traditional tunes and harmonies, Arabian music (Tunisia, Morocco,
Lebanon) because of the rhythm and the language but I need to find
some more of it (maybe I should ask my neighbors who always play
this kind of music on the weekends?). And - blame my parents - I
like many of the old Country&Western
songs. I liked Johnny Cash before the movie! There
are also operas and concertos and chamber music that I like; I
listen to this usually on the radio and of course, never really
know or remember the composers and performers.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
my best friend and twin-of-my-soul; chocolate; libraries; lipstick;
bandannas; my favorite black biker boots
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
I wonder a lot about strange questions. Like - what would life be
like if humans had a prehensile tail? - if you shave a zebra, do
you still see the stripes, i.e. is the skin striped too? - what if
humans could do photosynthesis, like some corals could deposit the
chloroplasts from our food in our skin? - on the southern
hemisphere, is the waning / waxing moon sickle the same shape as on
the northern hemisphere (ok, I know the answer to that one
now)?
Update: One of my friends may have a colleague who can help with
the zebra question...
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Getting off work early, then leafing through my recipe collection
for inspiration before getting groceries for the weekend; later
reading or watching a DVD at home...
Or on the local train out to meet my soul-twin for a weekend of
laughter, creativity, hard work and great fun...
Or staying longer at work, browsing the internet, reading my
favorite blogs...
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I tell myself bedtime stories when I cannot fall asleep (not aloud,
but in my head). I usually have two or three ongoing story lines.
Works every time...
You should message me if Propose an edit
- you are a woman, live in or near Berlin, are looking for friends
(Maybe more? who knows)
Since I am rather new to Berlin, I am looking to widen my social
circle. I prefer female friends, who are open to spiritual thoughts
but still able to think rationally. I am not one for bars and
clubs, I'd rather enjoy a good conversation or a walk in a park. I
love shopping or rather browsing stores, especially bookstores,
esoterica, pet stores, tools and wood and paint... not so much
clothes, shoes, jewelry or cosmetics.
Do you love books and like to talk about them? Are you interested
in politics, science, feminism/gender theory? Are you a
nonconformist, at heart if not by appearance? Do you have
experiences to share? Goals and dreams for life?
I am not interested in meeting single or partnered men. My needs
for male company are completely fulfilled, thank you.
I am also not interested in long-distance pen pals. My time and my
online access is too limited for that.
