My self-summary
I was born in Arkansas, and lived there until I was 14. I went to a boarding school in Chattanooga, Tennessee (Baylor School) for high school. I then went to UVA (University of Virginia) in Charlottesville, VA, and lived and worked in Charlottesville for another year after I graduated. Then I moved to New Zealand, where I cleaned hostels, worked at a horse farm, and was a bartender (while working front desk at a hostel). Now I'm back in the USA living in Harrisonburg with my beautiful dog Savannah.

I love and miss New Zealand!

I'm a Democrat and get really sad when I find out that someone I think is cool is conservative. I don't believe in God, but I don't mind if you do as long as you respect my non-belief.

I used to play rugby and I think it's basically the best team sport ever.

I think Eddie Izzard is quite possibly the funniest human being on earth. I love dry, weird humor.

I realize that monogamy is mostly dead now, and while I personally am not polyamorous, I recognize that lots of people nowadays are. If you are poly, that's fine, but I'm looking to be someone's primary rather than the "other woman." I've played that part, and I find that it just makes me feel cheap and replaceable (neither of which I really think I am). Having said that, I'm totally fine with the guy I'm with ogling/flirting with other girls, as long as he ultimately chooses me. :) I think that's the beauty of monogamy: you realize and recognize that there are indeed other people out there, but you choose to be with one person because all their hangups and personalities and imperfections are worth it.

Non-animal lovers need not message me. I adore animals, and am soon going to be essentially dedicating my life to them.

What I’m doing with my life
I start vet tech school at Blue Ridge Community College on August 22. I'm pretty nervous about it since I haven't been to school for four years, and I've gotten out of the swing of studying, but I'm really excited about it at the same time.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I've recently been reading the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon. (The books are really long and can get kind of old after a while, but it's too late for me. I've followed the characters for so long that I just have to know what happens to them.) My favorite book of all time is probably Watership Down by Richard Adams, followed closely by "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" by Christopher Moore. I'm a big fan of "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein, "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, and anything by David Sedaris.

I love movies, and have a ton of favorites of all different genres. Some of the movies I could watch over and over again are (in no particular order): Moulin Rouge, Closer, Braveheart, Finding Neverland, Up, I Heart Huckabees, Contact, Stranger than Fiction, Bring it On (it makes me so happy), The Saint (it's so bad I can't look away), Casino Royale, Quills, The Princess Bride, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Trainspotting, Thank You for Smoking, and Shrek 2. I recently saw Inception, and I think it's easily one of the best movies of the decade.
I also have a few TV shows that I greatly enjoy, among them being Grey's Anatomy (sort of the same idea as the Outlander books; I've just watched for so long that I just have to know what happens to everyone, even though I know it's ridiculous), House, Scrubs, Flight of the Conchords, and Glee.

I don't listen to music a lot, but I like REM, Smashing Pumpkins, the Beatles, James Taylor, Cake, Sigur Ros, Rufus Wainwright, Ben Folds, etc. I mostly get soundtracks when I buy music.

My favorite food ever is artichoke. Seriously. I hate spicy food. The feeling that my mouth is blisteringly hot and will never be normal again has never translated as pleasure to me.

The six things I could never do without
After spending so much time traveling in a foreign country, I realized that there are very very few things where I couldn't cope if I didn't have them. Among them are:

caffeine (preferably Dr Pepper)
animals (my dog Savannah first and foremost)
intellectual stimulation
toothpaste (yay oral hygiene!!)
corrective lenses (i'm seriously blind without them)

and that's about it. I like having a cell phone and a computer with internet, but if I have to do without, I can manage.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I hate cold weather, and I really don't like snow. I can't walk in a straight line when it snows; I always list to the left.

Also, I tend to sleep in my glasses. I hate waking up and not being able to see.
