Im not entirely sure how to describe myself- it all feels a bit
like bragging, at which I am rubbish.
I do my best to be a good person. Insert something about the
Aristotelian virtues for intellectuals, and something about not
being a hater for normal people.
What I’m doing with my life
I am currently teaching, and working the in my local hostelry, most
of which money is ploughed right back into their profits in some
kind of Keynesian booze-pact.
I’m really good at
Over-thinking things; Identifying obscure facts about favorite
subjects (and hence also pub quizzes, apart from the sports round);
making some people laugh whilst completely baffling others at the
same time; Cooking; ruining urban myths for people.
The first things people usually notice about me
I must have a famous-looking face, as everywhere I go, people tell
me I look like various celebrities, fictional characters and
historical figures. It does appear, however, that what they see
first is the glasses.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I wont try to list everything I have ever read, so will just say: I
dearly love to read, and will try most things. I feel naked if I
dont have a book with me, especially if I have to wait somewhere
for the passage of time. I do like a good detective/crime/espionage
novel, but also some science fiction, decent historical novels, and
a lot of history books.
I LOVE movies. Hollywood movies especially, although not always for
the 'right' reasons (the terrible high-concept ones I find/make me
entertainingly angry). Black and white classics, old westerns, war
films, seventies new wave, 80s trash nostalgia, anything. Love love
love. I could talk movies for hours and not get bored.
Music, again, all sorts as long as its good. This could range from
weird world music, baroque, classical, rock and roll, country,
folk, and Stephen Foster. I will give most things a try without
Food is another of my great passions. I love to cook and eat, and
will try anything (unless it has tentacles or lives in a hinged
shell) from anywhere. I personally think the chilli is the finest
foodstuff ever grown.
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What on earth is the answer to the human condition? (answer: there
probably isnt one. Never mind)
On a typical Friday night I am
Watching something on TV or on a DVD, drinking beer or cider and
wondering what spicy thing to eat next.
That or down the pub talking like it was going out of fashion.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I like to sing when I have been drinking, like some big Irish
