My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a graduate student getting my PhD in English lit., studying imperialism, cities, Hinduism, monsters, aliens...I'm trying to make a career talking and writing about all the stuff I love to talk and write about anyway.

Before coming to Rochester I lived in Istanbul for 2.5 years, and traveled a lot (Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia).

On the side I also do some photography
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Writing two manuscripts: The Idol and the Machine, and Urban Monstrosities. Sexy titles, slow progress.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
um, banter? playing with cats? Photography? Public speaking? Interrogatives?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
authors: China Mieville, J.G. Ballard, Jorge Luis Borges, Angela Carter, Samuel R. Delany, Philip k. Dick.

At the University of Rochester I've taught classes entitled "The Urban Unreal," "The Allure of the Obscure," "Art Against Empire," and "Madness Unmediated." Together they give a very good indication of my literary tastes.

music: Sleigh Bells, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Ratatat, St. Vincent, Bright Eyes, Bjork, Iron & Wine, Damon Albarn, 20's, 30's & 40's-era vocal jazz, Django Reinhardt.

Films: Rosemary's Baby, Paprika, Ninja Scroll & Vampire Hunter D, Tekkon Kinkreet, Mulholland Drive, Hausu, Thirst, The Five Obstructions, anything by Woody Allen.

television: Key & Peele, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, The Daily Show, Twin Peaks, Extras, Star Trek: TNG, Quantum Leap, Sherlock Homes w/ Jeremy Brett.

food: I love making and eating curry, whether Indian, Thai, Malaysian or etc.; there's nothing like it for sublime complexity of taste. I also love (but have never made) Ethiopian food; and nothing beats fresh home-made pesto over penne, walnuts & cherry tomatoes.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Marshland, the Juggernaut, tightrope walkers, continental drift, Angkor Wat, foliage.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
floodlights, caravans, mosaics, the warp drive NASA is building, remote antiquity, the gods of ancient Babylon, quicksand, and The Dread Pirate Roberts.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
studying the complex social formations of pygmy marmosets in Sri Lanka (it's a side project)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I once admitted to something private on OkCupid
